Lt Olin Strauss Completes Judge Advocate School

First Lieutenant and Mrs Olin Strauss and family arrived in Hallettsville from Virginia where Lt Strauss attended a Judge Advocate School at the University of Virginia. After a 15 day leave he will report to Fort Hood on March 1. He is the son of County Judge and Mrs Gus Strauss.

Beatrice Zappe Returns Home After Surgery

Miss Beatrice Zappe, who had surgery at DeTar Hospital Victoria last Wednesday, is recovering at home. Her mother Mrs. William Zappe stayed with her at Victoria and resided with her brother W. A. Ludvik Svetlik Buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery

Ludvik J Svetlik Jr of Hallettsville was buried February 13 after services at Kaben a Funeral Home and Sacred Heart Church. Pallbearers included Victor Svetlik Jr, Dan Grones, and others. he died of a heart attack February 11 at 5 30 p.m. He was 47, survived by wife Annie and five sons and two daughters. He was active in Sacred Heart Church Knights of Columbus VFW American Legion and Appells Hill Gun Club. A line of rosaries was held by K of C the parish and the CDA.

Mrs. A J Blohm age 85 years six months and 21 days died Monday February 15 1965 at 1130 a m at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital The body lay in state at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner until 1:00 p m Wednesday February 17 then to First Methodist Church for services at 200 p m Interment followed at Shiner City Cemetery A complete obituary to be published next week.

Shiner Receives Beneficial Rain After Prolonged Drought

Sunday morning's clear start gave way to rainfall across Shiner with Edgar Pfeil reporting 3.10 inches from Monday night to Wednesday morning. He notes about ten inches in 1965, six in January, and 4.10 inches in February so far, describing the rains as beneficial for rangeland, soil mellowing, and rising creeks.

Band Concert Thursday Night 1965 Comanche Band

The Shiner Comanche Band opens its 1965 season with a concert Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the High School Gym. Tickets cost adults fifty cents and children twenty-five. proceeds fund band equipment. The 56‑member group placed second in Gonzales Come And Take It Day Parade and earned Honorable Mention in the Fatstock Parade in San Antonio.

John J Stary Yoakum rancher and ex owner of Starys Restaurant died in a Galveston hospital February 12 1965 after a lingering illness He was 61 born July 10 1903 in Yoakum survived by wife Adella a son Ed five sisters two brothers and two grandchildren Funeral services were set for February 14 at 2 00 p m at Buffington Chapel St Josephs Church and Cemetery Requiem Mass was offered February 15 at 7 45 a m Rosary was recited February 12 at 7 30 p m at the chapel.

Obituary Notice for E O Henkhaus Civic Worker

The obituary for E O Jack Henkhaus recalls his service as a WWI veteran and civic worker.
