City Warrants Endorsed By Business Men's Club

The Business Men's Club met in irregular session at Cozy Coffee Shop with 21 members. They endorsed the City Council in the warrants election to be held February 20, and discussed mail delivery service improvements for Shiner. A guest from San Antonio, B. F. English, attended.

City Warrants Backed For Municipal Plant Upgrade

The City Council states no new taxes are needed and warrants will be paid from plant earnings. Citizens are urged to vote next Saturday February 20 for the City Warrants Issue to fund a new engine due to increasing loads and patronage. Failure of the present engine could disrupt industry and cost more than the upgrade.

Donations Drive Grows for Flood Relief Effort

Since the last report, successive gifts have arrived totaling more than a few dollars. Notable contributions include G. W. Bechenburg with 3.00, and 2.00 from Theodore Rogge, Joseph Mikulek, and Anton Hodanek, plus 1.00 from a long list of donors including Mrs. Anton Hodanek, Miss Milada Hodanek, Edwin F. Garden Club Meeting At Library Thursday At Three

The Garden Club will meet at the library Thursday afternoon promptly at 3 o clock. Attendance has been low but is expected to improve, with hopes that Friday brings out full membership.

Shiner Comanches Named Lavaca County Basketball Champions

The Shiner Comanches, coached by Milton Jowers, won Lavaca County basketball after three victories in round robin play and a default by Moulton. illness sidelined several players but Shiner dominated, earning the county title for the fourth year in a row with final win by forfeit over Moulton. Officials were E. C. Powers, Marley Giddens, and Lee Mitchell.

Two New Homes For Shiner Celebrate Early New Year

Two new houses open the year in Shiner. The Herbert Rank cottage near southeastern city limits is nearly complete and occupied by the newlyweds with a bright white bath, hardwood floors, and a linoleum kitchen. The Emil Novak residence on Ave C features musical room and dining room with pastel walls, ivory green white kitchen, and a roomy rear porch. Contractors include E W Sonntag electrician and Julius KoniaKowsky, with materials from Garbade Lumber Co and plumbing from Shiner Hardware Co.

Detroit February 11 The costliest strike in American auto history ends with an agreement between General Motors and the United Automobile Workers Union. The settlement includes a five cent hourly wage increase for all employees and union recognition as the bargaining agent. Strikes to be evacuated, production to resume rapidly, and no discrimination against strikers. The move spurred market activity with profits on the New York Stock Exchange.
