Menke and Schmidt Wed In A Thursday Morning Ceremony

Robert L. Menke and Elsie Schmidt were united in marriage at 11 o clock Thursday with Rev. W C Wollsdorff officiating. The bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Schmidt of Kochheim Prairie. groom a young farmer from the same community. The couple departed by noon train for a Galveston honeymoon.

Epworth League Hosts Saucy Valentine Anniversary Party

The Epworth League and Miss Hollmann celebrated St Valentine with music and games. Misses Valenta Moecke Dittmar and Alma Muecke organized contests, candy kisses, and love rhymes amid red and white decorations while thirty guests enjoyed festive refreshments.

Public Good Roads Speaking Forum Series

A series of public meetings on good roads draws both supporters and opponents. Sessions run 7:30 p m at Boundary Menger Charlottenburg Green s Mt Olive schools from February 22 to February 26 with English German and Bohemian remarks.

Mask Ball at Rocky Site Draws Crowds and Prizes

A large crowd attended the mask ball last Saturday night at Rocky Site. Prize winners include Angelina Marcak for butterfly first prize, a nameless angel second prize, A Kolacny for policeman third prize, D Kostand for good road fourth prize, John Hajek for cotton picker fifth prize, and Tom Marcak Jr. for Gold Dust sixth prize.

Fire destroys barn on H.K. Jones farm near Dilworth

On Tuesday night February 9 a barn on an H.K. Jones farm near Dilworth burned. Ten bales of cotton and about 300 bushels of corn were destroyed. The cause is unknown. Owner J. A. Mudd reported there was no insurance.

On Thursday last week Macha and Brosh sold 187 bales of cotton at a satisfactory price. The firm reports being well pleased with the sale and proceeds.

Shiner Justice Court Reports Two Notable Trials

Last Monday in Shiner Justice Court two cases reached verdicts after long, crowded hearings. Charles Monse was convicted on disturbing the peace with a $1 fine, while Ed Schmidt’s suit for Rosa Schenidt yielded a verdict for the plaintiff. Dissenting appeals were filed and a late-night session ended around 10:30 p.m. The crowd was described as among the largest seen, with fervent motions for new trials. After adjournment a physical altercation occurred between Aug Spies and Im Revel over the evidence, leaving both sides injured.
