Pan-American Honors Joseph Muras After 39 Years as Agent

At a February 11, 1967 dinner in Shiner Texas Pan-American Life Insurance Co honored Joseph Muras for 39 years as a general agent. He started in 1921, became general agent six years later, and retires from that post while continuing to sell insurance.

St Paul P-TC Food Sale Set for Feb 18 at Market

The St. Ludmila Academy and St. Pauls PTC announce a food sale on Saturday February 18 at downtown Paket's Market starting 10:00 am. The Shiner Independent School District will hold an election on April 1 1967 to fill two expiring school board terms. Candidates must file by March 1 with the superintendent in writing using available forms. Richard Williford and Kenneth Otto are term expirations to be filled.

NMSOT Schedule Announced For St Paul High Students

St Paul High School will administer the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test on February 28, 1967 at 9:00 am. Students pay a $1 fee through Science Research Associates. Semifinalists from each state advance to Merit Scholarship consideration with extensive corporate and college support totaling thousands of scholarships awarded since inception.

Mrs David Kirkland laid to rest in Victoria

Mrs. David E. Kirkland 77 of Victoria died February 11 1967 after a short illness. Funeral held February 12 at Duckett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev James L Carlson officiating. Seventh Annual St Paul-Sla Science Fair March 5

The PTC presents the seventh annual St Paul High School and St Ludmila's Academy science fair on Sunday March 5 1967 at the Catholic Parish Gym. About 150 students enter for honor medals and savings bond prizes with judging by external experts from San Marcos and Victoria. Judges assess creative ability scientific thought thoroughness skill clarity and dramatic value with anonymity maintained until judging ends. Grand prizes include 50 25 and 25 savings bonds funded by local groups and the Lavaca-DeWitt Medical Auxiliary gives a special medal for best medical exhibit. Public viewing runs 8 am to 6 pm admission is free.

Southwestern Bell CWA Contract Signed After Four Weeks

A 36 month agreement worth 24.115 million annually was signed February 8 by Southwestern Bell Telephone and District 6, Communications Workers of America. It covers 50,000 non management employees in 917 cities across six states and part of Illinois and includes wage gains, enhanced medical and life plans, expanded pension, four weeks vacation after 20 years, and wage renegotiation after 18 months.
