At a February 11, 1967 dinner in Shiner Texas Pan-American Life Insurance Co honored Joseph Muras for 39 years as a general agent. He started in 1921, became general agent six years later, and retires from that post while continuing to sell insurance.
The St. Ludmila Academy and St. Pauls PTC announce a food sale on Saturday February 18 at downtown Paket's Market starting 10:00 am. Homemade breads strudels cakes pies kolaches noodles and butter will be sold to the public. Members with last names A through M and parents of students in the group are asked to contribute.
The Shiner Independent School District will hold an election on April 1 1967 to fill two expiring school board terms. Candidates must file by March 1 with the superintendent in writing using available forms. Richard Williford and Kenneth Otto are term expirations to be filled.
Appointed to post Adolph Seidenberger and Monroe Menke as National Aide-de-Camp to Commander-in-chief Leslie M. Fry for their VFW service. They will assist the Department in all VFW programs with emphasis on membership. Announcement made Thursday February 9 at the regular meeting.

Mrs Anna Marie Beal nee Waligura of Garwood Colorado County died Feb 4 1967 at Nightingale Hospital El Campo at 68. Funeral services from Triska Chapel El Campo Feb 7 and 9 30 a.m. at St Marys Nada with Rev Edmund J Bily officiating. Interment St Marys Nada Cemetery. Pallbearers listed Lawrence Beal Ben Waligura Johnnie Pavlu Ben Beal Frank Jezisek Victor Waligura. Survivors include daughter Rose Marilyn Kocurek of El Campo son Emmery Beal of Midland eight grandchildren two brothers John Waligura of El Campo Clement Waligura of Rockport. husband Joe Beal preceded her Dec 22 1960.
St Paul High School will administer the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test on February 28, 1967 at 9:00 am. Students pay a $1 fee through Science Research Associates. Semifinalists from each state advance to Merit Scholarship consideration with extensive corporate and college support totaling thousands of scholarships awarded since inception.
Mrs. David E. Kirkland 77 of Victoria died February 11 1967 after a short illness. Funeral held February 12 at Duckett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev James L Carlson officiating. Burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Survived by husband David E. Kirkland a daughter Mrs M D Sims a son Marvin Elder six grandchildren five great grandchildren and a brother Erwin Wagener.
Television coverage of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition auction airs Friday February 17 at 8 30 a m on KONO TV V Channel 12. A remote unit will show bid by bid action as the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion steers go on the block. In 1966 the Grand Champion sold for 8500 dollars to Alamo National Bank and the Reserve Champion for 4000 dollars to Dr Katherine E Ryan.
The Shiner Public Schools will use radio station KCTI Gonzales to announce early dismissals on bad weather days. This replaces phone call chatter as lines will not be tied up and helps parents and students stay informed.

The PTC presents the seventh annual St Paul High School and St Ludmila's Academy science fair on Sunday March 5 1967 at the Catholic Parish Gym. About 150 students enter for honor medals and savings bond prizes with judging by external experts from San Marcos and Victoria. Judges assess creative ability scientific thought thoroughness skill clarity and dramatic value with anonymity maintained until judging ends. Grand prizes include 50 25 and 25 savings bonds funded by local groups and the Lavaca-DeWitt Medical Auxiliary gives a special medal for best medical exhibit. Public viewing runs 8 am to 6 pm admission is free.
The Sisters of St Ludmila Academy join Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament to celebrate a hundred years of educational service in Texas with a high mass at 11 00 a m on Sunday February 19. A 2 30 reception in the parish gym invites all.
Election for district and county school trustees set for Saturday April 1 in Lavaca County. Candidate filings due by March 1 at the county superintendent's office. Incumbents George F. Kallus Precinct 1 and Julius Jasek Precinct 2 terms expire.
Hermann Sons Shiner Lodge No 20 meets February 20 at 730 pm with lunch. Cub Pack 232 also meets February 20 for charter renewal and joining info. Home Demonstration clubs meet February 16 21 and 23 at homes or parish gym. Knights of Columbus meet February 16 with Boy Scout Troop 232 program. St Elizabeth Society does not meet February 19.
A 36 month agreement worth 24.115 million annually was signed February 8 by Southwestern Bell Telephone and District 6, Communications Workers of America. It covers 50,000 non management employees in 917 cities across six states and part of Illinois and includes wage gains, enhanced medical and life plans, expanded pension, four weeks vacation after 20 years, and wage renegotiation after 18 months.
Absentee voting for the school trustee election runs from March 13 to March 28, four days before the April 1 election. Clerk for absentee voting is Mrs. Lanelle Kasper. Supplies and ballots are available in the Shiner Public Schools office. voters must present a Voter Registration Certificate to prove eligibility.
The De Witt Lavaca Gonzales Texas Ex-Club will stage the Texas Independence Day event on March 4, 1967 in Shiner at 7 30 p m in the Shiner Public School Cafeteria. Tickets are 2 50 from Dr A A Darilek Jr before Feb 28. Club president Jack Cloutier invites all UT alumni and friends to attend. Guests include Jack McGuire and wife Pat McGuire, with door prizes and officer elections announced.
