Funeral services for Maude Elizabeth Hodges 72 were held at the Methodist Church in Shiner with Rev. S R Horwood and Rev L R Stephens officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery near Gonzales. Survivors include husband A M Hodges five daughters one son and eight grandchildren.

The Council of Catholic Women met presided by Mrs. C. J. Waldrep naming representatives from P T A and various societies. Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Bortel of 512 West May Street Yoakum were held February 9 at Buffington Funeral Chapel Yoakum and St. Josephs Catholic Church. Burial followed in Shiner Catholic Cemetery with Msgr. Joseph A. Pustka officiating. Born September 27 1870 in Czechoslovakia she died February 7 at age 80 years 4 months and 10 days. She came to America in 1873 settling near Fayetteville and was married to Vincence Bortel in Hallettsville in 1890 who died November 15 1939. Survivors include daughter Miss Gussie Bortel of Yoakum three sons Leo J Bortel of Shiner Jim Bortel of Inez and Alex Bortel of Houston nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Aug Wegener Rites Held at Shiner Funeral
Funeral services for August Wegener were held at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner with Rev. Oehlke officiating. He died February 6 at 7 40 a.m. at his son’s home on Route 3 Shiner after four weeks illness. Burial was in Shiner City Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters and six sons, 24 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Santone School Band Plans March 29 Concert
The Band Club meeting after the P T A reported strong attendance with refreshments. Mrs. John Cook presided as President. Committees reported and will resume for the forthcoming concert. Director Robert W. Taylor announced the band’s entry in the Fat Stock Show Parade in San Antonio on Friday Feb 16 with a school bus for students and chaperones.
