Hallettsville Student Tops Time Magazine Contest

St Paul Cardinals win first TCIL I AA district title

New 1969 Estimated Tax System Issued Nationwide

IRS Southern Texas director announces a completely new estimated tax package for 1969 mailed to about 10 million taxpayers. Instructions stress no filing is required if withholding plus estimated tax is under $40. The package includes four preaddressed vouchers and return envelopes and is imprinted with the taxpayer’s name and SSN for proper credit.

DPS Seeks Recruits For Next Patrol School

Rules Tighten On Advertising For Him Her

The U S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issued new guidelines prohibiting job ads from using separate male and female headings. Exceptions apply only when sex is a definite job qualification. The rule is retroactive to January 24 following a D C Circuit ruling that the guidelines are constitutional.

Memorial Observance for Maine Sinking February 15 1898

The Maine Shiner Memorial Post 6209 VFW and Ladies Auxiliary plan an observance in Havana Harbor marking the sinking of the U S S Maine on February 15 1898. 266 Americans died and the event helped ignite the Spanish American War.

Rodney Spann Set for Calf Scramble at San Antonio Rodeo

Shiner FFA member Rodney Spann will compete in the calf scramble during the San Antonio rodeo performance on Sunday February 16. Twenty boys and ten calves participate per scramble with the winner receiving a certificate valued at fifteen to fifty dollars to aid livestock purchases for a productive project. The vocational agriculture class selected nine boys to draw for representation this year.
