Shiner Chamber of Commerce board in special session Feb 7 organized the Shiner Agricultural Fair Association. Vigilant Committee to Shield LaGrange Merchants from Outside Solicitors

LaGrange Chamber of Commerce forms the Vigilant Committee to curb outside solicitors who advertise locally and canvas merchants. The panel will issue permits to solicitors, allowing only those with authorization to solicit, protecting merchants from nuisance campaigns and boycotts.

Civic And Roadside Meeting Promotes Native Planting

City Commissioners convened Friday afternoon with speakers from civic groups and state officials. Landscape Engineer Jack Gubbles urged propagation of native flowering and evergreen plants, favoring Youpon Red Bud and Wild Peach, to aid roadside beautification across the region.

Cold weather delays Hallettsville preacher visit

On a frigid Saturday night and Sunday morning the Methodist congregation advised Rev. Guyon to skip his regular appointment. By afternoon the weather eased and Rev. Guyon and his wife traveled from Hallettsville to visit, had supper at J. M. Canon's home, and returned home early.

Twentieth Century Club Meets for Birthday Dinner Plans

The Twentieth Century Club held a regular meeting on Thursday February 6 with Mrs. Gus Walters presiding. Plans for the annual Birthday dinner were discussed and the minstrel planned earlier was postponed. Texas Legends was presented by Mrs. McDonald and Texas Oddities were read by the club led by Mrs. Gus Wolters, with Miss Vera Elizabeth Eikel as guest.

Amid unprecedented cold ex service men answered the notice to attend the Legion Club room last Sunday to fill out bonus cashing forms. St Ludmila s P T A held a Feb 3 meeting in the academy library with President Mrs Joe Michna presiding. Fifteen members attended as minutes were approved and mothers reported on room visits. Illness reduced attendance as Sister Ludmila is hospitalized in Cuero and Sister Sydonia has resumed duties. The group is preparing Texas Centennial projects for public exhibit in Dallas.

Work on Highway 200 Set to Start in February

Eagle Lake Headlight reports that the first construction on Highway 200 in Colorado county will begin Wednesday February 26 with thirty relief workers fencing clearing grubbing and grading. State highway engineers will stake the proposed lines next week and rights of way have been secured from Eagle Lake to the Lavaca county line.

Stickers Advertise Texas Celebrations in 1936

Austin reports all Texans buying motor vehicle licenses in 228 or 254 counties will receive Centennial windshield stickers. The Texas Department of Information provided 228 counties with the stickers, which tax collectors or deputies will distribute to applicants. The small red, white, and blue stickers read 1836 Texas 1936 Centennial Celebrations.
