Bounty on Cats Triggers City Health Alarm

About 11 o'clock Tuesday morning Mrs. Ben Schulz was bitten by a house cat near her home. Doctors advised sending the cat head to Austin where rabies was confirmed. The city ordered cat killings. funeral pyres formed blocks. Next Monday night 15 year old Ewald Effenberger, bitten by the same house cat, also traveled to Austin with his family. the cat later showed no rabies and he recovered.

Cobra's Eyes Bird Saves Officer From Cobra Attack

British officers Brickhouse and Bates on a porch hear a bird whistle known as Cobra's Eyes. Brickhouse is seized by a cobra, gasps prayers, and when the bird calls, the snake relaxes and drinks milk, sparing his life. He returns to England and dies that year as a wreck.

Sweden Lesson Highlights Twentieth Century Club Meeting

Mrs Elo Wolters hosted the Twentieth Century Club with Mrs E G Burke presiding. Librarians for February named Mrs Edgar Wolters and Mrs Elo Wolters. The lesson Sweden Land of White Birch and White Coal featured 100 color stereoptical views by Mrs Edgar Wolters Stockholm Granite City North. Meeting adjourned to Feb 17 at Mrs Wm Wendtland Jr home.

The Cemetery Association met at City Library with strong attendance. Officers elected: President Mrs B Welhausen, Vice President Mrs E F Wolters, Treasurer Mrs Peck Welhausen, Secretary Mrs Eli Wolters. Report on the year praised. K of P Lodge thanked for $67.50 donation. Tea and Bazaar scheduled for March 22.

Civics Class of Shiner High Visits State Capitol

The Shiner High Civics Class toured Austin on February 7 1930 visiting the Capitol Senate chamber and governor offices. They met Rep J J Olsen and the only Galveston woman representative, received floor privileges, toured the Capitol dome and state institutions, and ended the day with a memory making trip home.

J. F. Mitchell of Dyer County Tennessee says milk from four good cows kept his cotton farm and Ford running for two years. Cream checks paid the grocery bill chopped 35 acres of cotton and funded extra help to save 650 bales of hay while buying gas and oil for the car.
