Mrs Monika Haslbeck died January 27 1953 in Rosenheim Germany at 78 after flu and pneumonia. She was sister of the late Kosmos Spoetzl and aunt of Cecelie Spoetzl, and survived by three daughters and one son in Germany.
Men's Club gathers tonight at Jim and Jane's at 7 o clock for Washington Birthday festivity. Hermann Sons Lodges host a joint social at Shiner Dine-Inn Tuesday Feb 17 with a Washington Birthday program for ladies. Shiner Lodge No 1065 A F and A M meets Monday Feb 16. Last week’s aerial photo is identified as G. D. Nollkamper’s farm on Route 1 six and a half miles northeast of Shiner part of the original homestead bought from Hick Woods. Alfred Nollkamper owns the 85 acre operation with 45 acres cultivated and 40 acres pasture producing oats sudan for grazing and hegari hay.
A full report on the Shiner Polio Fund will appear in the next issue. Many reports are still arriving and some areas granted extensions. The county total awaits tabulation. Local response exceeded expectations.

William Daniels aged 57 died suddenly at his home near Glaze City on Monday noon. Last rites were held Tuesday at 3 30 p m from Baker Chapel Gonzales with burial in Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born October 26 1892 in Lockhart. Survived by wife Mary Alice Semmler two children Ervin Ray Daniels and Mrs Josie Fay Williams and brothers Tom Rob ert Sol Benton John and sister Ollie McCarty.
John E. Bartlett, local representative of the Internal Revenue Director's Office, warns taxpayers to file early to speed up refund checks. He notes Shiner residents can get tax preparation help at the Yoakum Post Office each Monday.

The Lutheran Church votes to start construction of a new church in 1953 with 400 seats, plus a 210 seat social hall and a 15 room educational unit. Additional eight-room wing may be added later if needed. Architect's cost estimate stands at 163500 dollars with possible reductions from donated labor.
Final rites were held for Mrs Jim Sthuka at Roeder Funeral Home and Shiner Catholic Church with a high mass and rosary. She died February 8 after a brief hospital stay at age 55 leaving two daughters three sons and many relatives. Pallbearers named. Interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
J Breitkreutz 87 died February 8 in Bohman Hospital Cuero after a life in Schulenburg Charlotteburg Wilson County and Lavaca County. Funeral held February 10 at Church of United Dr. Martin Luther with interment in Shiner City Cemetery. Survivors include daughter Hettenbach Rockport son Alfred Cuero and several stepchildren.
Obituary notes Herman Weitzel born in Cologne Germany in 1874 died after illness at 78. He lived in Shiner 33 years and had two marriages producing several children and stepchildren. Funeral at Buffington and Shiner Catholic Church with interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
The annual World Day of Prayer will be observed at 7 30 p m Friday February 20 in the Baptist Church. Sponsored by the local branch of the United Council of Church Women. The program will be presented in Gazette's next issue.
The Agricultural Mobilization Committee proposes 1953 acreages 50 000 cotton 45 000 corn 15 000 sorghum total 3 000 sorghums for gain 4 000 tame hay. Former Secretary Charles F Brannon notes a 14 percent cotton cut may be needed to avoid mandatory controls in 1954. Edgar Freytag chairs the committee urging shift to grain.
