Boy Scout Week Proclaimed by Shiner Mayor

Mayor Arthur H. Kaspar proclaims February 7 to 13 as Boy Scout Week in Shiner Texas and February 8 as Boy Scout Anniversary Day with February 9 observance. FHA Valentine Dance Slated After Shiner Moulton Game

The FHA sponsors a Valentine dance at Shiner High School Gym after the Shiner Moulton basketball game. All students from both schools and alumni are invited. Admission is 35 cents per couple and 25 cents for stags. Dance runs from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight.

Lavaca County reports only one contested race in the Democratic primary held May 7 in Hallettsville with two candidates for justice of the peace precinct 1 incumbent Oscar Shoemake and Wilbert D Roznovsky filing by February 7. Grain Short Course for Lavaca County Farmers

A three night grain production short course will be held at the Hall lettsville County Court House February 15 16 and 17. Speakers from A&M University Extension Service include Ben Spears Wendell Horne Phil Hamman Charles Welch and Henry O Neal discussing varieties diseases insect control soil fertility harvesting and storage facilities. Mrs. Robert Klaus of Harlingen passed away Tuesday February 8 in Harlingen. She was a former resident of this community and sister of Mrs. J. C. (Ella) Blohm of Shiner. Rites were pending at press time.

Henry Flessner 82 Formerly of Shiner Buried in Yorktown

Henry W. Flessner died at his Cuero home January 25 1966 aged 82 years 6 months 11 days. He was a retired farmer previously with Guadalupe Valley Cotton Mills Cuero. Funeral January 27 at St Mark's Lutheran Church Cuero with burial in Westside Cemetery Yorktown. He born July 14 1883 in Oldenburg Germany emigrated 1891 to Weimar then Shiner area and later Yorktown Cuero Lindenau Garfield. Survived by wife Emma six children 17 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Alfred W. Stoeltje died January 31 1966 at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital aged 69 years 5 months 10 days after a heart attack. He served in the U S Army 1918 1919 including Panama Canal Zone and married Alvina Sander in 1920. He was a longtime member of United Dr. Martin Luther Church Herman Sons and American Legion Kolar Stanek Post 201. Lavaca County Poll Tax Report Shows Tax Roll Totals

Lavaca County reports 1965 poll tax issues totaling 3,434 with 45 exemptions and 3,479 overall. exemptions noted for 21 years. 1964 shows 2,888 issued with 12 exemptions and 2,900 total. 1963 records 4,434 issued with 91 misprint noted and 4,525 total. Through January 1966 the office collected 96.6 percent of the 1965 tax roll.
