Shiner residents urged athletic spirit and sportsmanship during Lavaca County Interscholastic Meeting March 18 and 19. The district highlights included a boys basketball win over Moulton and a Shiner Yoakum clash, with school praise for civic hosts and a fund benefiting the Boys Athletic Club.
Two miles south of town J R Matula drilled a well on Louis Mraz farm and encountered a free burning gas flow four feet above the casing. The well will be deepened to seek a stronger gas yield. It is the third gas well in the area and locals believe a large oil field underlies the surface.
