Representative Stanley Boysen of this district was named to five important House committees Insurance Banks and Banking Highways and Roads Municipal and Private Corporations and Public Health The appointments give this district a voice on state health and road policy and signal a push to limit city annexation powers. Dr Harvey Renger of Hallettsville chairs the Texas Medical Association as incoming president and Senator Krueger joins Public Health in the Senate.
Emil Berger Jr. a Shiner High junior and football and basketball player was elected Chapter Beau of the Shiner Future Homemakers of America FFA. He is president of the local FFA chapter and son of Mr and Mrs Emil Berger Route 1 Shiner Texas.
Howard G. Hall of the Internal Revenue Service in Victoria explains that the W-2 is not a tax return but a receipt for taxes withheld. It must accompany the tax return for 1960, with Copy B from each employer, and an amended return is needed if a W-2 arrives after filing.

The Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department announces its annual Valentine dance at the Recreation Hall on February 11 with Jurecka's Orchestra. Firemen committee members Howard Glenn Dolezal H W Ehler Jr and Alvin Langhammer coordinated planning and advance tickets at 1.00 per person.
The Shiner Post Office posted gross receipts of 24 957.07 for 1960 up from 24 020.23 in 1959, reflecting growing business in Shiner. Since 1951 receipts have steadily climbed from 14 980.06, while staff remains unchanged. Postmaster Arthur T. Ward supervises clerks Edwin H. Pohler Marie E La Hodny and Oscar W Buesing with rural carriers Gilbert A Kasper Edgar P Kram and Thomas B Hughs and substitutes Oscar F Glomb Otto C Remmers.

August Kaspar 89 pioneer citizen of Shiner died January 31 1961. He founded Kaspar Wire Works from a backyard shop and grew it into a leading U S manufacturer. Survived by Emma Stindt Kaspar. four sons. two daughters. seventeen grandchildren. twenty great grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral held February 2 at United Dr. Martin Luther Church with lavish floral tribute and large attendance.
The Shiner Dance Club requests all unpaid members to pay dues by February 28 or face vacancy on the waiting list. Members not returning this year should notify the secretary or treasurer. Officers emphasize adherence to club rules and urge suggestions be raised at meetings.

John J.
