Shiner Commercial Club Holds Meeting on Poultry Drive
The Shiner Commercial Club met at City Hall last Thursday night for its regular session. The Chicken committee reported progress on the poultry campaign with orders for nearly seven thousand pure breed baby chicks placed at a low price due to volume and early ordering. Future orders may cost more. A bulletin board at the post office will display items for sale or wanted to benefit the public. The club passed a resolution urging the public not to aid beggars or solicitors without a permit from the Mayor. Members encouraged joining and support for Shiner and surrounding trade areas.

Remains of Max W. Henkhaus Laid to Rest at Shiner
Max Walter Henkhaus died at his mother's home in Yoakum and was buried Friday in Shiner Cemetery with Rev. Father Wolf officiating. Floral offerings testified to the esteem he held. Aged about 25, he was married to Josephine Cauthern, with one child surviving. He was employed by Jaresh-Burton Co. of Yoakum and trusted by both employers and the public.

1725 City Poll Taxes Paid In Yoakum
Yoakum Herald reports up to midnight last night seven hundred twenty five city poll taxes paid by the city tax collector Vernon Lynch. Nineteen hundred and nine blanks filled leaving one hundred eighty four unpaid poll taxes. Those who pay today or later face the law’s penalty. Nearly two hundred Yoakumites cannot vote this year.
