Mrs. Sophia Flato dies at Houston home after long illness
Mrs. Sophia Flato, last surviving child of her family, died last Saturday at the home of her daughter in Houston after months of declining health. She lived in Flatonia and Comfort with her husband Frederick Flato, leaving six children, 24 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. The funeral in Flatonia was led by George Frenkl ing with local choir hymns. The community paid respects to a beloved pioneer.

Twentieth Century Club Hosts Readings and Plans Meeting
Mrs Peck Welhausen hosted the Twentieth Century Club last Thursday with a program led by Mrs Joe Hughs. Robert Burns The Cotters Saturday Night read in Scotch dialect sparked discussion. the group adjourned to meet February 14 at Shiner High School. Desperate Train Wreck Near Lockhart Yoakum Averted Disaster
A passenger train derailed after a cow was struck by the cow catcher causing the last coach to overturn and the engine to remain on track. Seven people were seriously injured and hospital reports say most are expected to recover. Responders aided at the scene and by four the track was repaired allowing service to resume by seven.
