Lavaca residents urged to support save a life drive

Lavaca County residents are urged to give blood at a community drive sponsored by the Hallettsville Lions Club and Blood Services of Victoria at the American Legion Hall on February 19. The program shifts to volunteer donors with a life saving goal and a six month blood coverage plan for donors and their families.

Reunion Plans Being Made For Shiner High School Classes

Rev Julius Holm Returns Home After Heart Attack

The Rev Julius F Holm pastor of Zion Lutheran Church Moulton and Wittig Lutheran Church was taken to Renger Memorial Hospital Hallettsville Tuesday Jan 28 by Moulton ambulance after an apparent heart attack. He was dismissed Saturday and recuperating at his Moulton residence. Do not hold thawed frozen fish longer than a day before cooking.

Mrs. A O Dreyer nee Ida E Schoenvogel died at 9 30 a m Sunday February 2 1975 in a Bryan hospital at age 87. Thirteen SP freight cars derail near Flatonia no injuries

Thirteen cars of a Southern Pacific freight train derailed about five miles south of Flatonia around 8 p.m. Thursday January 30. No injuries and no crossings reported blocked in the mishap.

Victoria woman Lydia Spann dies after long illness

Mrs Lydia Spann 50 year old resident of Victoria died at Cave Inn South Victoria after a lengthy illness. She was a lunchroom supervisor for the Victoria Independent School District and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Survived by husband Raymond Spann three sons two daughters in law and eight sisters and two brothers. Funeral at Our Lady of Lourdes with burial in Resurrection Cemetery.

Shiner Teacher’s Photo Shines in KINSA Exhibit at Kodak Gallery

A Shiner teacher, Douglas Kubicek of Hallettsville School District, has a black and white documentary photo in the 1974 Kodak International Newspaper Snapshot Awards exhibit at the Kodak Photo Gallery in New York City through March 15. Kubicek’s image, taken on a busy Shiner Saturday, was a Corpus Christi Caller Times summer snapshot winner competing for 55 000 in cash and travel prizes. The exhibit features finalists from the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Gallery hours and location noted.

Arkla Officials Explain High Gas Bills In Texas

Arkla Louisiana Gas Co officials cite higher pipeline costs for south central Texas customers. They say La-Vaca Gas Gathering Co. lacks supply and buys gas at open market prices, pushing wholesale costs to Arkla about five times higher than 18 months ago. Affected cities include Lockhart Luling Gonzales Yoakum Cuero and Shiner. Company regrets costs and notes it cannot sell gas below its acquisition and distribution costs.

Womanless Wedding Planned by Shiner PTO

On Friday February 14 at 7 30 p m in the high school gym the Shiner PTO sponsors a womanless wedding. Kindergarten and grades one to three entertain before the ceremony while the Stage Band performs.
