Boy Scout Week February 7 to 13 celebrates the 59th anniversary of the movement. It notes that 328 members of the 90th Congress were Scouts or leaders and 36 of 47 living astronauts were Scouts.
The Shiner Chapter of the FHA sponsors a seed sale offering many vegetable and flower seed varieties from The American Seed Co. Buy a package to support the FHA and brighten your garden.
A Victoria Texas Social Security representative will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 AM Monday February 10 1969 to help residents file retirement survivor or disability claims and answer questions about Medicare benefits. The district manager noted that medical expenses toward the 1969 deductible may include 1968 costs for those with Medicare doctor bill insurance and that deductible calculations count only covered services starting from eligibility.
Minnie Raab of Shiner died at 74 on January 31 1969 in Nix Hospital San Antonio. Funeral services were held February 2 at Buffington Funeral Home and Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with a Rosary recited the day before. Burial followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Surviving are two sons Walter and Herbert Raab a daughter Doris Raab a brother Anton Ultmann six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The family is mourned by many friends and the Gazette joins in sympathy.
James F Netardus of Route 4 Hallettsville died February 1 1969 in Moulton at 1 24 p m at age 68. Funeral at Ka bena Hallettsville 9 30 a m and St Marys Catholic Church 10 a m with Rev Henry Psencik officiating. Burial in St Marys Cemetery. Survived by wife Mary and three sons six relatives. Burial rites and church membership noted. Born Lavaca County September 16 1900 son of Charles and Terezie Netardus.
Nineteen members consign eighty two registered Herefords to the Gulf Coast Hereford Association 19th annual Spring Sale to be held at American Legion Park Columbus Texas Friday February 7 1969. Entries include sixty five horned bulls six polled bulls and eleven horned females acclimated to Gulf Coast conditions. Cattle sell as single lots and in pens of two or three. Sam Johnson cattle manager Van Winkle Ranch Buffalo Texas will judge the cattle for the sales order beginning at 9:00 am Col Walter Britten of Bryan will start the sale at 1:00 pm.
Funeral services for James Jim Turk 67 were held at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner with Rev J Gordon Tulk officiating. He died January 29 1969 in Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital after 38 days as patient. Burial in Turk family plot Shiner City Cemetery. He never married. Survivors include two brothers four sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shiner Knights of Columbus Msgr Netardus Council 3081 sponsors a dance and social for members and families at Wied Hall on Saturday February 15. Former members and prospective members invited from Hallettsville Moulton Gonzales and Yoakum councils. Free dance and snack bar. Music by Singing Dutch Masters of Shiner.

Walter Breitkreutz of Rt iL Shiner escaped injury in a one car crash on FM Road 1891 between Macharts Grocery in Charlottenburg and Shiner Moulton Highway 95. At 11 10 am Monday January 27 the 1964 sedan skidded after a tire went flat, veered right, flipped onto its top in a field. Highway Patrolman Wilbert Horstmann reported medium damage to the Ford.
Lisa Ann Cox of New Orleans died at Southern Baptist Hospital from pneumonia and complications. Rites were held January 29 at Aurora Methodist Church with burial in Garden of Memories. Surviving are her parents Ronald D. and Mrs. Cox, a sister Leslie, and grandparents in Houma, Shiner, and Seabrook.
Hugo G. Schwabe and Jerry Mikes of Shiner completed a purchase on January 27 1969 acquiring the Royce Spies Meat Market in Hallettsville. They bought the building and equipment from Royce Spies and Edna Tiemann of Brethren Michigan adjoining the courthouse square. George Spann will manage the market as remodels and new facilities are planned.
Mrs Joe Vassa has returned home from the Victoria Convalescent Center after a four month stay. Relatives and friends welcomed her recovery and homecoming.
Adolph Paul Jaks 72 of Houston died January 31 1969 after a four year illness. Funeral held February 1 at Earthman North Freeway Chapel with Father Schnieber officiating burial at Brookshire Cemetery. Survived by wife Pauline Baros two daughters Elizabeth and Virginia two sons Emil and Richard a brother James Jaks and five others. Many relatives from Shiner Crosby and El Campo attended with community sympathy extended.

M I Bozka former mayor of Hallettsville and Peoples State Bank chairman died January 28 1969 at Renger Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He led Hallettsville 18 years retired 1967 and oversaw the municipal golf course and library. Born 1891 in Nickel he studied at St Procopius College Lisle Illinois and later built a banking career with his brother and son Jim as bank president. He received multiple honors for community service and FFA involvement. Funeral rites were held at Sacred Heart Church with an honor guard from the Knights of Columbus.
A 17 year old San Antonio boy, David Leroy Hagendorf, died Sunday afternoon near Bulverde in Comal County after being accidentally shot by an 11 year old companion while four boys fired at tin cans with .22 rifles. He died at the scene. services were held in Shiner with interment at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church. Survivors include his parents Leroy and Margie Hagendorf, sister Carolyn, and brother Darrel.
