Womanless wedding to feature at high school event

The High School Gymnasium hosts a womanless wedding on Thursday night February 20 at 7 30. A concert by the High School will precede the wedding and admission is 10c and 25c, benefiting the Public School PTA.

Methodist Church Race Relations Day program announced

Sunday night a special program at the Methodist Church observes Race Relations Day to promote better race relations. A local colored choir will sing several numbers and the message will address Christianity and Race Relations. The evening offering will support colored colleges in the United States, two of which are in Texas. All are welcome.

SOUTH TEXANS TO RECEIVE TAX FILING HELP IN 1941

The Internal Revenue Service announces Deputy Collector J. J. Muska will be at the Yoakum Post Office February 20 and 21 to assist South Texans in filing income tax returns. With more returns anticipated and changes in liability bases, exemptions set at 800 dollars for single and 2000 for married, free guidance will be available to help with exemptions and deductions. Citizens are urged to plan ahead to avoid March 15 congestion.

Word arrived after print that Louis Motal died in Corpus Christi at 1 15 p m Wednesday following a car accident. Funeral services are set for Friday at 9 00 a m with interment in Corpus Christi.

Tom C. Bailey Dies Near Dilworth at 77

Tom C. Bailey died at his home near Dilworth on Saturday morning after a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Eschenburg Funeral Parlor with Rev. M. Leach officiating, followed by burial in City Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, a son Arnold, a daughter Mrs. J. L. Santos of Wharton, a granddaughter Mrs. R. J. Hodge, a great grandson Robin Hodge Jr., and three sisters.

Miss Evelyn Berger became the bride of Frank Patek Tuesday at the Catholic Church of Shiner in a white satin gown with lace trim and train. The ceremony featured flower girls, bridesmaids Mary Patek and Lillie Steinacher, groomsmen Joe and Charlie Patek, and a reception at the bride’s home followed by a dance at Midway Hall. Lavaca County Opens Oil Field with New Well

Lavaca county this week joined Texas oil producers as the McMurrray Refiring Co. No. 1 Alien-Meinert No. 1 struck in, yielding 150 barrels of 56 gravity distillate. The well, located east of Vienna near Hallettsville, began flowing quickly and is set to boost activity in the Wilcox sand. Nearby prospects include the Davis and Co’s No. 1-A Brownson in Colorado county with 65 barrels in 16 hours, while Shell Oil has moved in an exploration crew in Lavaca with details TBD.

Rockdale High School Band Concert At Gym

Rockdale High School Band directed by Wm. Wendtland performed in the local high school gym. The full ensemble arrived by Bowen Bus with chaperones listed. The program featured a mix of marches, overtures, solos, and descriptive scenes, ending with refreshments provided by the Band Mothers Council. Includes out of town guests such as Supt. Former Kokernot Resident Eddie Jurica Dies in Corpus Christi

Eddie Jurica of Corpus Christi a former Kokernot resident died at Corpus Christi hospital after a weeklong illness. He was born September 4 1888 near Moravia Texas and died January 30 aged 52 years 4 months 26 days. He married Agnes Marek in 1909 and survives with six children, his parents Mr and Mrs John F Jurica of Kokernot, one brother Willie Jurica and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held February 1 with burial in the city cemetery. attendees included family members from Kokernot Gonzales and Shiner.
