The High School Gymnasium hosts a womanless wedding on Thursday night February 20 at 7 30. A concert by the High School will precede the wedding and admission is 10c and 25c, benefiting the Public School PTA.
The Sunday service sermon for all Christ Science churches on February 9 at 11 a m centers on the theme Spirit. The Golden Text reads If we live in the Spirit let us also walk in the Spirit from Galatians 5 25 and includes the blessing from Numbers 6 24 26 asking for peace grace and divine countenance.
Sunday night a special program at the Methodist Church observes Race Relations Day to promote better race relations. A local colored choir will sing several numbers and the message will address Christianity and Race Relations. The evening offering will support colored colleges in the United States, two of which are in Texas. All are welcome.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church announces weekly services led by Pastor Eveih C. Nickel. Services are held every second Sunday of the month at 3 o clock.
The Internal Revenue Service announces Deputy Collector J. J. Muska will be at the Yoakum Post Office February 20 and 21 to assist South Texans in filing income tax returns. With more returns anticipated and changes in liability bases, exemptions set at 800 dollars for single and 2000 for married, free guidance will be available to help with exemptions and deductions. Citizens are urged to plan ahead to avoid March 15 congestion.
Word arrived after print that Louis Motal died in Corpus Christi at 1 15 p m Wednesday following a car accident. Funeral services are set for Friday at 9 00 a m with interment in Corpus Christi.

Shiner High School gymnasium will host a womanless wedding on February 20 sponsored by the P. T. A. of Shiner High School. The event promises lighthearted entertainment with male participants in wedding roles to amuse the audience.
Mattress applications will be taken at Kokernot Grove for 1941 mattresses. Applicants must sign the application blank before February 11. Hurry. Mrs. F. M. Baros.
A notice states no more mattress applications will be taken at the Blohm Building on Saturdays. Applications will be accepted during the week while mattresses are crafted at the Legion Club Room. Mrs. Homer Sommerlatte is associated with the notice.
Local Baptist minister Rev Rayford Harris is back at home and improving after a recent foot operation. Followers and friends note his steady recovery and hope for a full return to ministry duties soon.
Tom C. Bailey died at his home near Dilworth on Saturday morning after a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Eschenburg Funeral Parlor with Rev. M. Leach officiating, followed by burial in City Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, a son Arnold, a daughter Mrs. J. L. Santos of Wharton, a granddaughter Mrs. R. J. Hodge, a great grandson Robin Hodge Jr., and three sisters.
A meeting of the Band Sponsors is planned at the Music Hall on Friday February 7 at 3 45 pm with members and interested friends invited to the Band Rehearsal at 3 o'clock.

Miss Evelyn Berger became the bride of Frank Patek Tuesday at the Catholic Church of Shiner in a white satin gown with lace trim and train. The ceremony featured flower girls, bridesmaids Mary Patek and Lillie Steinacher, groomsmen Joe and Charlie Patek, and a reception at the bride’s home followed by a dance at Midway Hall. The couple will live with the bride’s mother and begin married life amid best wishes.
The senior Luther League will gather Thursday February 6 at 7 30 p m at Luther Hall for a church group meeting.
Mr and Mrs Albert J Darilex of El Campo welcomed twin daughters Delores Ann and Dorothy Mae on January 15 Their mother who is also a twin is remembered as Evelyn Goetz
A daughter was born to Mr Edward Rippel and Mrs Rippel on January 23. The infant weighed 10 pounds at birth and is reported in local birth notices.

Dr and Mrs F M Wagner Patrick Alf Grill Mrs J F Kasper and Miss Albina Janik attended the funeral of Mrs Frances Hanak at Caldwell Monday morning.
Lavaca county this week joined Texas oil producers as the McMurrray Refiring Co. No. 1 Alien-Meinert No. 1 struck in, yielding 150 barrels of 56 gravity distillate. The well, located east of Vienna near Hallettsville, began flowing quickly and is set to boost activity in the Wilcox sand. Nearby prospects include the Davis and Co’s No. 1-A Brownson in Colorado county with 65 barrels in 16 hours, while Shell Oil has moved in an exploration crew in Lavaca with details TBD.
A home making cottage will be built on the Sam and Will Moore Institute campus in Moulton as a memorial to the late Edward Boehm Sr. funded by the Ed Boehm Sr. estate gift.
A W Matusek, previously running a filling station near Sweet Home, takes over Sunken Garden on February 1 from Ed and Mrs Havel. He will run the restaurant with Mexican dishes and short orders, beer, ice cream, and continue gas and oil sales, inviting locals to visit and support the new ownership.
Vinc Sciba 84 died Tuesday afternoon. Funeral services Thursday at 9 from Fred Netardus home, then to Sacred Heart Church and Hallettsville Catholic Cemetery. Survived by ten children, 40 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. wife died 1940. one son Otto died 1936. K. J. T. Society members attend.

The Dickson Branch of the Farmers League will hold their meeting Thursday February 13 and not on Tuesday as stated in the Farmers League Gazette. Jerry Havel Secretary Treasurer.
Rockdale High School Band directed by Wm. Wendtland performed in the local high school gym. The full ensemble arrived by Bowen Bus with chaperones listed. The program featured a mix of marches, overtures, solos, and descriptive scenes, ending with refreshments provided by the Band Mothers Council. Includes out of town guests such as Supt. Cernosek and music director Teague.
Eddie Jurica of Corpus Christi a former Kokernot resident died at Corpus Christi hospital after a weeklong illness. He was born September 4 1888 near Moravia Texas and died January 30 aged 52 years 4 months 26 days. He married Agnes Marek in 1909 and survives with six children, his parents Mr and Mrs John F Jurica of Kokernot, one brother Willie Jurica and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held February 1 with burial in the city cemetery. attendees included family members from Kokernot Gonzales and Shiner.
Residents report numerous complaints about turkeys roaming and roosting in the cemetery. The note asks turkey owners to keep birds away to prevent further damage and maintain cemetery cleanliness.

The Methodist Ladies Aid met January 22 at 3 00 pm with Mrs Peck Welhausen hosting. Rev Leslie McDaniel led prayer and the group elected 1942 officers led by President Gus Wostern and Vice President O W Dreyer. Guests included Rev Leslie McDaniel and several members. The February flower committee is named and the next meeting set for February 26 with Mrs C B Welhausen.
The Bailey family thanks the people of Shiner for kindness and sympathy after the death of Tom C. Bailey.
