March of Dimes Campaign Extended One Week

Jos Muras local chairman announces Shiner lags in donations and extends the March of Dimes drive for one more week. Citizens may place offerings in town jars with no personal solicitations. He says the current total is a pittance and urges greater generosity from the community.

Loretta Turner Dies From Yoakum Car Crash Injuries

Loretta Turner 21 of Yoakum died in Yoakum hospital after a February 1 highway crash near Shiner on Highway 95. The car, driven by Frank Valis of near Shiner, rolled after a tire blowout injuring Turner, who died in the early hours of February 3. Funeral plans await word from relatives.

Balusek-Hagendorf Rites Solemnized Tuesday Afternoon

Miss Margie Balusek and Leroy Hagendorf united in holy wedlock at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Shiner Catholic Rectory with Rev. J J Hanacek officiating. The couple, both Shiner High graduates, had worked in Houston before their wedding. A moved supper was held at the Hagendorf home due to bad weather.

Milton Kasper Ill in San Antonio Hospital

Mr and Mrs E N Kasper received a notice from Brooke General Hospital that their son Milton was very ill. He was taken to San Antonio on Saturday with his father, his sister Mrs Wilma Reigart and Miss Mary Lee Fietsam driving the ambulance. Friends hope for better news.

Mrs Pustejovsky a Loving Mother Entered Into Rest

Mrs. Pustejovsky nee Antonino Chovanetz born January 17 1859 in Silesia Czechoslovakia came to America with her parents in 1866 endured a sea voyage died January 31 1948 in Moravia Texas age 89. Her husband died eleven years earlier and thirteen children survive along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Hajek home in Moulton with interment in the family plot. a large crowd attended amid flowers and hymns.

Revered Pioneer William Darilek Buried in Moulton

William Darilek 103 oldest and respected Lavaca County citizen died in his sleep at the farm near Henkhaus. Funeral at Oehl Funeral Home Moulton with Mass at St. Josephs. Interment Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survived by six sons, one daughter, 25 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren.

Shiner Boys Shine At Stock Show Wins And Placing

Ned Dreyer's Aberden Angus won first in heavy weight and was named reserve champion in the boys Angus division at the Houston Fat Stock Show. The calf had earlier won light weight class at the State Fair in Dallas in October. Johnnie Turk Jr. took twentieth in the medium Hereford class, the largest Such class ever seen. Ned and Johnnie, Shiner boys, trained in F F A in Yoakum schools.
