Diversification Gains Ground at Shiner Tomato Meeting
Last Thursday at the Tomato Producers Meeting in Shiner crops were discussed including corn for roasting ears potatoes for northern markets and muskmelons. Fred Remmers was appointed to inquire about the corn proposition and report at the next meeting held last night. Potatoes to be planted by mid February with strong interest. Roasting ears offer safety if markets are unavailable and the tomato crop stands as expected. The weekly night school continues with instructor Kingen giving progressive talks.

Comanches Triumph In First League Match Shiner Defeats Hallettsville 21
Shiner defeated Hallettsville 21 to 19 in the first Inter scholastic League game for Lavaca County. Hallettsville led early 5-3 after the first quarter and 9-6 at halftime, but Shiner surged in the fourth to win with the final goal in 20 seconds. Fouls ran high with Hallettsville at 15 and Shiner at 13. two Shiner players and one Hallettsville player were banished for four fouls. Next game set for Hallettsville Friday night.

News reaches Shiner of the death of Mrs Hattie Niemeyer Pietsch at age 28 years 7 months 11 days. The remains were taken to her aunt Mrs E A Juengerman's home, with funeral held Wednesday at 2 PM. Survived by husband and a 3 day old infant son and numerous other relatives. A fuller notice to follow next week. Miss Ella Stratman visited Hallettsville relatives Sunday.

Mrs. Jane McVea Called to Her Heavenly Home
