Everything is being rationed and printer supplies are tight. Check the Gazette date and renew if needed because on the 1st day of February all delinquent subscribers will be dropped from the mailing list.

Rev Richard Schuetze preaches on Matthew Thirteen noting the church on earth is imperfect yet the harvest is sure. He urges cultivating the good in all, avoiding harsh judgment, and encouraging improvement within the church during Sunday services and youth programs.

Edgar Wolters and Mr and Mrs E F Wolters Mrs Clara Wel en and Mrs Zoo land visited Jim Kulenburg Sunday afternoon.
A two man Japanese submarine captured at Pearl Harbor will be shown in Schulenburg on Main Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on February 5. The 81 foot craft weighs 75 600 pounds and travels on a tractor trailer. Visitors will see two pretend Japanese sailors, torpedo launchers, and viewing ports in the plexiglass hull as part of a wartime exhibit tied to War Savings Stamp promotions.

Mr and Mrs Wm Zappe and Beatrice attended the funeral of Mrs Lou Martin in San Antonio Monday. Mrs Martin age 81 and former Shiner resident died Friday after an illness of one hour. Sympathy from many friends in Shiner goes to her son George, who resided with her and is the only immediate survivor.
A meeting of the Blucher Park Verein members is set for Sunday February 7 at 3 p.m. All members are urged to attend.
Dist Deputy Pete Liberda announced a district membership drive during a Hallettsville visit. An initiation is planned for Sunday March 7 in the district. Interested individuals may contact Dr. F M Wagner or Joe Fietsam.
The Chamber of Commerce will meet in the new city hall on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. Directors must attend, and regular members should be present throughout. Secretary Lewis E. Denmark.
The local high school fills the English position as Miss Hertha Liebhafsky accepts the job. She is well known and popular with students and parents. Supt. Auld says he is glad to have her back and expects excellent work from her.

Captain Eugene E. Wilson recounts aiding the capture of a Japanese two man submarine off Pearl Harbor after the December 7, 1941 attack. Funeral services for Mrs. Lilla Planck Denmark of Westhoff were held at 2:30 pm Thursday from Mrs. L. DuBose’s home. She died Wednesday evening in a local hospital. Dr. Ben David officiated the Baptist rites and burial followed in Westhoff cemetery. Survived by husband J. E. Denmark, son Lewis E. Denmark, four daughters, two sisters, two brothers, and two grandsons. Shiner relatives attended.
Patek's Grocery, damaged by fire, plans to reopen by Friday this week. The rebuilt store features enlarged space, new counters and shelving, fresh paint, and an inviting interior for public inspection.
An oyster supper at Meyers Modern Cafe brought together active and honorary Fire Department members City Council telephone girls a Gazette representative and nightwatchman Leader Ed Herder chaired with short talks then the meal and a spirit of cooperation highlighted the event praising the fire department for its good city record.
Mrs. Grace Hepler of Alta Loma died January 30 at Alvin Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held February 1 and she was buried at Hitchcock. The Heplers formerly lived in Shiner and ran The Palace of Sweets. Her husband Mr. Hepler preceded her in death. Mrs. H. H. Hepler attended the funeral locally.
Emil Hajek local dealer of the John Deere Implements travels with Bill Werner and Edmund Stock for a week in San Antonio attending the John Deere Implement School.
War time notices urge men 18 to 38 to report for classification with local boards and carry cards. A gas and oil retail rule takes effect February 1 to streamline books and costs. Local resident J R Mikes celebrated 25 years with Eschenburg Funeral Parlor and civic service. February 6 12 marks Boy Scout Week praising their wartime and peacetime contributions to national goals.
Commissioner Kouba explains repairs delayed by wartime parts shortages and cold rain. He asks residents to be patient as crews work through rough roads and culverts. The precinct reports current warrants of 12,006.42 with 6,469.39 cash, a 5,537.03 deficit, plus about 200 bills not yet presented. Also notes Wake Island film at Palace on Sunday and Monday.
