Musical Nuns Recall Days On Stage
The Jones sisters once performed as a famous 1930s girls’ combo and later joined the Sisters of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. After their mother Mrs. Martin L. Jones died at 90, Sister Pius, a longtime music educator, passed on January 26, 1972, as the family remained active in church and school music.

Shiner VFW District Convention Set For April 23 1972
The Spring District 24 convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in Shiner on Sunday April 23, 1972. District Commander A W Schaffner announced the date at the District Council meeting in Victoria. The event may include Saturday activities. Post Commander Ewald Erdelt and Auxiliary President Mrs. Erdelt asked for cooperation. Voice of Democracy winners Marilyn Kocian William Kokas and Sharon Aschenbeck of St Paul High School spoke at the post meeting following the joint event.

August C Winkenwerder, aged 86, died January 30 1972 in Shiner Hospital after a fall. Funeral services February 1 at United Dr Martin Luther Church were conducted by Rev C Grosenbach with organist Mrs Victor Stindt. burial in Shiner City Cemetery. Surviving family includes six sons and three daughters, 37 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. He was a member of Hermann Sons Shiner Lodge No 20 and the couple’s 1912 marriage ended in widowhood for Martha Helen Boedeker.

Voter Registration Never Closes Under SB 51
The new SB 51 registration plan keeps registration open indefinitely. Those registered by January 31 appear on the initial list, with after date registrants on supplemental lists prepared 20 days before elections. Applications to the Tax Assessor-Collector or deputies must be submitted 30 days before a election to appear on lists for polling. April 5 1972 and October 7 1972 deadlines determine eligibility for May 6 and November 7 elections respectively.

Max Schroeder 93 Dies in Yoakum Funeral Held
Funeral services for Max C. Schroeder 93 of Yoakum were held at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. D I Dalton officiating. Burial was in Old Kinkler Cemetery. He died January 25 1972 at Yoakum Memorial Nursing Home. He was born September 6 1878 in Fayette County and survived by his wife and large family.

MAST Helicopter Transfers Patient to San Antonio Hospital
