The Shiner Business Men's Club met at the Royal Cafe with 14 members present. President A. A. Schramm presided as W. C. Schmidt kept the minutes. A plan to notify delinquent employes' bosses about unpaid debts was discussed, with potential actions to ensure bill payment or risk of employment loss. Mrs Marie Olivar Obituary In Ko kernot Community
Marie Olivar aged 88 died Friday evening at 8 80 at her daughter Mrs Annie Lopanec home in the Ko kernot community. Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 30 at Shiner Catholic Church with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Surviving are eight grandchildren. Born in the old country she came to America about 55 years ago. After her husband died five years ago she lived with her daughter until death. Sympathy extended to mourners.

John Valis Sr. 79, a longtime Shiner resident born in Czechoslovakia, died January 30 after several weeks of illness. Funeral at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church followed by Catholic Cemetery rites. Survived by wife Annie Lauer Valis, four children, 17 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. pallbearers included John W. Valis and Joe Valis Sr. The family legacy honors a devout and genial community member who lived in Flatonia and Shiner after emigrating in 1877.

Emil Pesek a Yoakum resident and former banker died in Weimar on a business trip after falling ill in a bank. Born near Praha fifty years ago he grew up in Lavaca County and worked in Yoakum Bank before entering insurance. Survived by wife Annie, son Leon, daughter Anita, six sisters and four brothers, his funeral was at St Joseph Catholic Church with Rosary and Requiem High Mass conducted by local clergy.
