The Big Three Welding Co of Houston offers a free welding school for Lavaca County farmers. The program would run about 3 nights at Yoakum Airport, 3 hours per night, pending at least 10 interested farmers. Farmers should mail a card to John V Lindsey, County Agent, by February 13 to gauge feasibility.
The regular meeting of the Chamber of Commerce is tonight Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce room. The session is described as very important.
Knights of Columbus announce an open house on Thursday February 9 for members and prospects. Msgr Beck of Victoria will be guest speaker after the business session a lunch will be served. An initiation is planned for a March date to be announced.
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Wehman was baptized Sunday at 11 o clock. The Rev. S R Horwood presided and Darrell Eugene was given his name. Mrs Wehmans sister Mrs J M Yater and Mr Yater served as sponsors.
Eichenlaub Lodge will hold its regular meeting Monday February 6 at 3 oclock in City Hall.
Boosters from San Antonio included Shiner in their itinerary Wednesday last and cordially invited the community to participate in the San Antonio Fat Stock Show.
Eugenia Bagby named superintendent of the Women's Confederate Home in Austin by state boards. She has served as hostess matron for 14 years and previously two years as superintendent.
Kolar Stanek Post No 201 sponsors the American Heart Drive in Shiner. Plastic Hearts placed in local businesses invite generous donations.

The U S mails are flooded with chain letters and mailers are warned this violates postal laws. Anyone caught mailing such letters will be reported to authorities. Washington DC Ed Herder P M.
Deputy Sheriff L Miadenko said Sheriff Long located Milton Jefferson 28 in Palacios Sunday on charges of robbing Schlenker Pressing Shop here January 31. Jefferson is an ex convict with prior theft charges.
Pack 231 Den 1 and Den 2 held a January 27 meeting at Luther Hall with a pot luck supper. Iris Day and Hugo Helweg advanced Arlen Tieken and Lewis Cook to Boy Scout from Local Scouts. Cubmaster Waldemar Tieken awarded the others and the group sang the Star Spangled Banner.
The Yoakum bridge group gathered Wednesday at Quast's with Mr. and Mrs. Basil Bell hosting. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Griffin and others, with Mrs. V. G. Stindt and Mrs. Oliver Heinsohn posting high scores.
The Catholic Sewing Club met with hostess Mrs. E J Henkhaus last Wednesday. Three new members joined: Mrs. Johnnie F Hajek, Mrs. Pete Kahanek, and Mrs. Weldon Aschenbeck. The silver offering totaled $14.35. Lunch included sandwiches, kolaches, strudel, cake and coffee. Next meeting set with Mrs. Ed Fischnar.
Mrs Alois Kasper supply secretary of the W S C S announces a new clothing drive for the underprivileged and asks that articles be left at her home at the earliest convenience.
Mr and Mrs Joe T Fric announce the arrival of a son at the local hospital on January 29. He weighs 9 pounds 15 ounces and will be named David Joe.
The Shiner City Cemetery Association announces a food sale on Saturday February 4 at City Hall. All lot owners or friends with relatives in the cemetery are asked to contribute home made cakes dressed chicken bacon sausage eggs and other items for the sale starting at 1 00 p.m.
The Metho dist Women's Society of Christian Service Yoakum and Shiner completed a three session study on Women of Scripture by Mass at Mrs H G Lare home Yoakum. Leader Mrs W T Browning delivered inspirational material for the final session with local members attending including Mesdames Peck Welhausen Cecile Plageman Frank Steiner Wm Wendtland Edgar Wolters Hugo Liebhaf sky Arthur Kasper E G Buske R B Kroulik Ed Herder Ad Valek Ed Gehrels Otto Dreyer and Miss Mabel Merren. It was the second annual Bible study conducted jointly by the societies.
The Community H D Club met January 19 at Mrs Adolph Petru's home. Eleven members attended. Minutes were approved and year books for 1950 distributed. Prizes were awarded by Mrs Jaluska, Mrs Sommerlatte and Mrs Filip. Lunch with coffee followed.
The Sweet Pea Patrol met at City Hall on Monday January 9 at 415 PM with all present. Dues totaled forty five cents and will be ten cents at the next meeting. Members planned making school bags for abroad and each girl to contribute supplies. Finger painting closed the gathering led by Mrs Stratman. next meeting at Emilie Lou Minear’s home.
The Den 1 pack held a 4 00 p m meeting at Luther Hall on Friday January 27 with roll call followed by law and promise recitation and practice. The group plans a 4 15 p m meeting at the Den mothers home on Friday February 3.
The Polio Drive in Shiner and surrounding area ends Tuesday evening with $672.16 raised by attendees. Extra donations from two schools, street collections by Girl Scout Troops and a benefit game contribute to the total, with additional gifts expected before Saturday noon.
Scouts of troops 231 and 232 and Cubs from both troops begin Scout Week with a 7:00 p.m. pot-luck supper at Legion Park on Monday February 6. Parents are urged to attend and participate. After dinner a local Court of Honor will award scouts and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Scouting Program in the United States.
Roy Nove 48 died January 31 at 520 Pershing San Antonio. He was a member of St Paul Episcopal Church Army Lodge 1105 A F and A M and Alzafar Shrine. Survived by wife Angeline Kasper Nove and his father Albert Nove of Waco. Funeral services with Masonic honors were held February 1 at the graveside.
Flatonia and Shiner meet in a big basketball game Friday night in the Shiner Gym. The game starts at 7 30. Between halves the Shiner High School Band will make its first public appearance. A large crowd is expected to greet director Taylor and Coach Seidenberger.
Obituary notice for Anton C. Roeder age 92 of Shiner born in 1857 in Germany. He died January 30 at the O D H S Home Comfort and funeral services were held February 1 at Shiner Catholic Church with burial at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include four sons three daughters and several grandchildren. his wife preceded him in death.

The Shiner Comets and Yoakum Outlaws met in a Polio Benefit game last Wednesday with a final 41 to 37 score as the Outlaws rallied in the second half. Donations for the Polio Drive totaled 55 dollars and 21 cents, aided by a case of Shiner beer donated as a prize from Spoetzl Brewery.
The Shiner Comets will host San Fernando of San Antonio this Sunday at 3 30 p m and Flatonia on Wednesday at 8 00 p m In addition they will play Flatonia in Flatonia Monday night This week the Comets battled Gonzales at Gonzales and Poth at Shiner.
H G Coledney reports discovering a large egg containing three yolks. He notes two yolk eggs from his white leghorn flock are common, but this three yolk egg is a rare first for him.
