Welding School For Farmers Lavaca County

The Big Three Welding Co of Houston offers a free welding school for Lavaca County farmers. The program would run about 3 nights at Yoakum Airport, 3 hours per night, pending at least 10 interested farmers. Farmers should mail a card to John V Lindsey, County Agent, by February 13 to gauge feasibility.

Pack Meeting Advances Two To Boy Scout Rank

Pack 231 Den 1 and Den 2 held a January 27 meeting at Luther Hall with a pot luck supper. Iris Day and Hugo Helweg advanced Arlen Tieken and Lewis Cook to Boy Scout from Local Scouts. Cubmaster Waldemar Tieken awarded the others and the group sang the Star Spangled Banner.

The Catholic Sewing Club met with hostess Mrs. E J Henkhaus last Wednesday. Three new members joined: Mrs. Johnnie F Hajek, Mrs. Pete Kahanek, and Mrs. Weldon Aschenbeck. Food Sale for Cemetery Carried by Shiner Association

The Shiner City Cemetery Association announces a food sale on Saturday February 4 at City Hall. All lot owners or friends with relatives in the cemetery are asked to contribute home made cakes dressed chicken bacon sausage eggs and other items for the sale starting at 1 00 p.m.

The Metho dist Women's Society of Christian Service Yoakum and Shiner completed a three session study on Women of Scripture by Mass at Mrs H G Lare home Yoakum. Leader Mrs W T Browning delivered inspirational material for the final session with local members attending including Mesdames Peck Welhausen Cecile Plageman Frank Steiner Wm Wendtland Edgar Wolters Hugo Liebhaf sky Arthur Kasper E G Buske R B Kroulik Ed Herder Ad Valek Ed Gehrels Otto Dreyer and Miss Mabel Merren. It was the second annual Bible study conducted jointly by the societies.

Community H D Club Meeting Notes at Mrs Petru Home

The Community H D Club met January 19 at Mrs Adolph Petru's home. Eleven members attended. Minutes were approved and year books for 1950 distributed. Prizes were awarded by Mrs Jaluska, Mrs Sommerlatte and Mrs Filip. Lunch with coffee followed.

Sweet Pea Patrol Meeting at City Hall

The Sweet Pea Patrol met at City Hall on Monday January 9 at 415 PM with all present. Dues totaled forty five cents and will be ten cents at the next meeting. Members planned making school bags for abroad and each girl to contribute supplies. Finger painting closed the gathering led by Mrs Stratman. next meeting at Emilie Lou Minear’s home.

Polio Drive Closes With Generous Response

The Polio Drive in Shiner and surrounding area ends Tuesday evening with $672.16 raised by attendees. Extra donations from two schools, street collections by Girl Scout Troops and a benefit game contribute to the total, with additional gifts expected before Saturday noon.

Scouts-Cubs Pot-Luck Supper to Open Scout Week

Scouts of troops 231 and 232 and Cubs from both troops begin Scout Week with a 7:00 p.m. pot-luck supper at Legion Park on Monday February 6. Parents are urged to attend and participate. After dinner a local Court of Honor will award scouts and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Scouting Program in the United States.

Roy Nove Rites in San Antonio

Roy Nove 48 died January 31 at 520 Pershing San Antonio. He was a member of St Paul Episcopal Church Army Lodge 1105 A F and A M and Alzafar Shrine. Survived by wife Angeline Kasper Nove and his father Albert Nove of Waco. Funeral services with Masonic honors were held February 1 at the graveside.

High School Band to Perform at Friday Night basketball Game

Flatonia and Shiner meet in a big basketball game Friday night in the Shiner Gym. The game starts at 7 30. Between halves the Shiner High School Band will make its first public appearance. A large crowd is expected to greet director Taylor and Coach Seidenberger.

Rites Held for Anton Roeder 92 in Shiner

Obituary notice for Anton C. Roeder age 92 of Shiner born in 1857 in Germany. He died January 30 at the O D H S Home Comfort and funeral services were held February 1 at Shiner Catholic Church with burial at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include four sons three daughters and several grandchildren. his wife preceded him in death.

Comets Edge Outlaws In Polio Benefit Showdown

The Shiner Comets and Yoakum Outlaws met in a Polio Benefit game last Wednesday with a final 41 to 37 score as the Outlaws rallied in the second half. Donations for the Polio Drive totaled 55 dollars and 21 cents, aided by a case of Shiner beer donated as a prize from Spoetzl Brewery.
