Sunday night robbery spree hits Purity Creamery and lumber yards

Placid community shaken by multiple early Monday robberies after thieves cut a rear Purity Creamery window, entered a butter ice vault, rifled desks, and damaged lumber company premises. They escaped with minor fruit and a missing axe from Louis Wagner’s planing shop.

The annual meeting of 174 stockholders with 98 voting was held at the Opera House on Monday. Board members over from last year were Joe L. Elsik Jno Novak and Ad Nollkamper. Four directors’ terms expired and were re elected Fred Remmers John Bohman Henry F Ehlers and Jno H Elsik. Officers elected were President John H Elsik Vice President John Bohman and Secretary Treasurer Henry Ehlers.

Wharton, Jan 19 A portion of the walls of the old Wharton School used by third graders at White School caved in this afternoon. No injuries occurred though several children fainted. The condemned structure had been deemed safe after repairs to accommodate more pupils.

Young Vic to Yoakum man dies after operation

Emil J. Kuenetka aged 24 years 5 months and 15 days died Monday night at his parents home in Victoria after an operation. He had been living in Houston three years where he worked as a bookkeeper for the Houston Police Department. He previously lived in Yoakum with years at E Hertz Department Store. Remains were brought to Yoakum Tuesday for funeral at St Joseph’s Church with Rev P J Kiffer officiating. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery. He leaves a wife and child, parents in Victoria, one sister Mrs Henry Kester of Moulton and brothers Rudy of Houston and Will of Victoria.

Chovanetz turkeys from Shiner Texas won first prize in the utility class at the Madison Square Garden Poultry Exhibit in New York.
