Magruder’s Bold Assault at Galveston Bay New Year
Confederate commander Magruder led a dawn assault on Galveston’s wharf attacking Federal ships Harriet Lane Neptune and Bayou City. Centered on land and sea fighting, the Lane fell after fierce close combat while Westfield burned. New Year’s Day Battle at Galveston 1868
