Two Shiner students graduate from Texas A M University as part of the fall class of 1,418, a mid term high for the state’s oldest public university. James P. Miculka earns chemical engineering and Laddie F. Wagner Jr. earns educational curriculum and instruction.

Freytag Family Marks 78 Years With Gazette

Walter Freytag of La Grange visited the Gazette office and shared that his parents Ludwig and Mrs. Freytag first subscribed in 1898 and the paper has stayed in the family since. After their deaths their daughter Norma Freytag continued the subscription, while Walter noted Otillie Maeker of Shiner died at 94.

Burglaries Reported at Shiner Store

Misc. Inc. in Shiner was burglarized in the early hours of Saturday December 18. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Yates left at midnight, making the theft time after their departure. Jewelry clothing novel ties and 94 dollars in cash were stolen. The break in was found at 9 AM by Mrs. C A Gilbert. Entry through the front door. items found at the rear. Loss estimated at 5500 dollars by the owner.

Shiner Post Office To Close Christmas and New Year

The Shiner Post Office will be closed on Christmas Day December 25 and New Year’s Day January 1 in 1976 and 1977. No mail distribution to Post Office boxes and no rural delivery will occur. Star Route service also not operating.

Robber Steals 300 Dollars From Hallettsville Liquor Store

A masked man robbed Matula No. 2 Liquor Store behind Hallettsville City Hall on a Friday night, taking about 300 dollars including 40 from a coin box. He tied the clerk, Marcus Davenport, and fled into the alley, with two accomplices believed to wait nearby. Police chief leads the probe.

Shiner Rotary Club held a Wednesday luncheon at Casa Fiesta Restaurant with 100 percent attendance. Gus Nollkamper presided and Richard Hammonds offered the prayer. Visiting Rotarians Holland Smith and Fred Martin joined, along with St. Paul High School students Donna Sofka and Janice Seidenberger who attended and discussed future plans.
