Monsignor L P Netardus announces Christmas services with multiple Masses beginning Sunday at midnight and continuing through the day with English and Czechoslovak sermons. Confessions are scheduled Friday and Saturday and all communicants must fast from 8 p m for midnight Mass. Donations go to the diocesan seminary and orphanage.
The church lists no Sunday School with Divine Service at 9 30 a m in English and German. Rev G Walter preaches in German and Rev R Schuetze in English. A Christmas program at City Hall drew over 600 people and aimed to serve the community with the Christmas Spirit and Peace on Earth Goodwill Among Men.
The Sunday sermon in all Christ Scientist churches centers on the Golden Text from Isaiah 9 2 foretelling light for those in darkness. The lesson echoes Elbert Hubbard's quote that the reward for a good deed lies in having done it, framing moral uplift.
The Methodist Sunday School presents its annual Christmas program on Sunday December 25 at 7 30 p m The first part features music and readings followed by a pageant titled He Changed the World The public is invited to attend the service.

The Shiner Volunteer Fire Department hosts its annual New Year’s Eve Ball at Blucher Park on December 31. Adt Migl's Original Orchestra provides music as locals support the fire boys to fund their work. Fireworks are forbidden on the grounds and enforcement will be strict.

The Shiner Garden Club met at Mrs. C. J. Waldrop's home on Friday December 16 to discuss gladiolas. Kasper led the talk and orders were placed. Mrs. Waldrep was praised as hostess for 1938 and the next meeting set for January 20 at Mrs. A. L. Valek's with dahlia orders planned.
Miss Louise Matula age 48 died Thursday at St. Joseph's Infirmary Houston and was buried in Catholic Cemetery Schulenburg. Attending the service were Mr. and Mrs. Arno Wagener and Glenn.
Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Wolters and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lichey and Mrs. John Henkhaus attended the funeral of Miss Annie Pannewitz in Schulenburg on Saturday after her sudden death in the city. The 64 year old native of High Hill was the sister of the late G. A. Pannewitz, a former local photographer. Additional attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Max Wolters and Mrs. Gus Wolters.
Mesdames Canon Kempe and Fietsam attended the funeral of Mrs. Fannie Finkelstein at Hallettsville on Friday afternoon. Freddie Berckenhoff of Houston spent the weekend with relatives. Mr and Mrs Rudy Hurta and their son visited here Sunday. Mr and Mrs Edgar Glatzert and Mr and Mrs Emil Kahanek spent Sunday in La Grange.

Christmas Day falls on Sunday this year and Monday December 26 will be observed as a holiday by Shiner businesses. Stores close Saturday night December 24 for Christmas Eve with no supplies till Tuesday December 27 and similarly for New Year’s Day when January 2 is a holiday.
A Ga zette force representative visited the Buske and Buske feed mill and praised its modern improvements. The plant offers corn grinding, shucks and cob processing, and can mix laying mash and other feeds per A M formulations or customer blends. James Burke heads the operation, focusing on dairy and poultry industry improvements in the region.

Out of town guests attended the pageant Why the Chimes Rang at City Auditorium Thursday night. Miss Nina Whittington dramatic art instructor Yoakum Public School and Mrs Lucille Eckols expression teacher Gonzales Public School were among the attendees.

The City Auditorium presented Why the Chimes Rang by the Expression Class last Thursday with Mrs Lane directing. Strong music by local musicians and St Ludmila Academy Sisters enriched the pageant, praised for its charm, period costumes, and clear diction.

Mr and Mrs Mat Hinck of Wied welcome a baby girl named Janice Barbara born at the local hospital weighing 9 12 pounds. The family announces the new arrival with happiness and good health.
Relatives alerted to the birth of Judith Elaine to Mr and Mrs Lee Fawcett of Yoakum on December 14. The infant weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces at birth. Mrs Fawcett is the former Olga Kasper, daughter of Mr and Mrs Aug Kasper of our town.
Mrs. A B Turek and Dennie with Mrs Otto Turek and baby Barbara Ann spent Wednesday in Yoakum. Mrs. R Wendel was accompanied home from Houston by her two great grandsons and left Mrs C H Mehnert improved.

The Mamas and Faculty played four quarters at Blucher Park with a 5 to 5 tie. A large crowd attended as high school pep squad backed the Mamas and grammar school supporters backed the Faculty. Proceeds met the hall rent, and organizers thanked the mothers and teachers for their aid.
Patients at the local hospital include Frances Elaine Wagner and Mary Jane Brunner of Flatonia along with Claud Kalina Matej Miehna of Cistern and others.
Miss Frances Elaine Wagner is reported ill but improving and hoped well enough to meet Santa Claus. W. J. Tomasco, previously very ill, is now doing nicely. Little Bobby Otto, recovering from a relapse, shows some improvement.
Shiner High School's boys team posted four results showing 25 12 over Smithville, 35 14 against Texas Lutheran B, 20 52 loss to Weimar, and 43 21 win over Prairie Lea.
The Lutheran Sunday School held a full house Christmas program in the City Auditorium last Sunday. Charlie Kasper led the Young Musicians with prayers and scripture readings by Rev R Schuetze. Speeches drills playlets and a Santa Claus visit followed, ending with gift distributions to pupils and teachers.
Cast including Jean Arthur Lionel Barrymore James Stewart Edward Arnold Ann Miller and Mischa Auer performs the comedy at the Palace Theatre on December 25 and 26. The Neighborhood Home Demonstration Club sold food on December 10 raising $11.62 and thanks patrons. Miss Donnie Yvonne Turek returned from two weeks in San Antonio Del Rio and Eagle Pass. Mrs. Chas Luecke and Mrs. Martha Biehunka of Moulton visited.
