FFA FHA Christmas Party Set At High School Cafetorium

The FFA FHA group at Shiner High School will hold its Christmas party Thursday December 20 in the high school cafetorium. Special guests will be the FFA Chapter members. The event begins with caroling at 7:00 p.m. in the west end of town if weather allows.

Rites Tuesday For Mrs. Chas. Riske In Hallettsville

Funeral services for Mrs. Charles O. Riske were held in Hallettsville after her death December 17 1962 in Victoria. The Rev D Lee Muehlbrad officiated at St Peters Lutheran Church with burial in Moulton City Cemetery. She was born May 11 1874 in Colorado County and lived in Moulton Hallettsville with survivors including two daughters a son and grandchildren.

Knights of Columbus to Meet at Catholic Parish Gym

Knights of Columbus will hold their regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday December 20 at the Catholic Parish Gym. Members are requested to be present. Town Schools To Close For Holidays

Shiner business houses close on December 25 1962 and January 1 1963 for Christmas and New Year observances. Shiner Public Schools close at 237 p m December 21 and reopen January 2 1963. St Ludmila Academy ends classes at 200 p m December 21 and resumes January 2 1963. Post Office closed on December 25 and January 1 no rural carrier service on those days.

Ex-Dentist Awaits Narcotics Trial in Victoria

James F. Miller, a former Cuero dentist, was returned from the Federal Narcotics Hospital in Fort Worth to await trial on three felony theft and unlawful possession of narcotics charges. Indicted April 27 by the Victoria County Grand Jury, Miller’s case involves theft of medical bags in Victoria, Yoakum, and Shiner, with narcotics found in the bags. Sheriff M. W. Marshall noted no Lavaca County charges yet. Miller operated a Cuero practice from 1947 to 1951 and was admitted to the Fort Worth hospital after arrest.

Schodde Breaks Leg In New Orleans Airport Fall

Arthur H. Schodde of Cuero, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Schodde of Yoakum and local soap representative, was hospitalized in New Orleans with a broken leg after slipping on ice while alighting a plane Thursday morning. Mrs. Schodde reports he is doing well and expected to return home soon.

Christmas Centerpiece Contest Winners Announced

The FHA announced winners of the Christmas Centerpiece Contest held December 8 in the High School Cafetorium. Grand prize in the Children's Division went to Mrs Yates First Grade, with multiple firsts and seconds across Religious, Centerpieces, and Mantlepiece categories. Judges were Mrs Lynn Smith Jr Gonzales, Mrs C E McCullough Gonzales, and Mrs Z W Scott Yoakum.

Mrs. Dooley of Bryan Rites Held in Iola

Funeral services for Mrs. W. D. Dooley of 2007 Stevens Dr. Bryan Texas were held Tuesday December 11 1962 at 4 00 p m at the First Baptist Church Iola. She died December 10 in St Josephs Hospital Bryan at age 79. Surviving are two daughters Hazel Dooley and Ruth Dooley Riske three sons Pat J C Dooley and W D Dooley nine grandchildren and several siblings. Burial was in Concord Cemetery near Iola.

Ben V. Zissa Seriously Hurt In Car Crash

Benjamin Victor Zissa 41 of Placebo and brother of Mrs. Frank Lin Billimek of Hallettsville was listed in serious condition after a 1963 sedan left FM Road 1686 three miles south of Telferner and plunged into Muddy Marcado Creek on a Saturday afternoon. The car remained submerged for over an hour before a passing motorist spotted it and an ambulance carried Zissa to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Victoria. Doctors found a brain concussion multiple lacerations and shock. Police said the vehicle traveled about 175 feet from road to creek bed.
