Lavaca County ACA committee tallied December 14 votes from the December 12 cotton referendum. Marketing Quotas received 615 votes with 351 against, 966 total and 63.6 percent in favor. Local results showedQuotas up relative to prior years, but not enough for county majority. Nationally, cotton producers favored quotas by a large margin, guiding the program year.
The Shiner Fire Department announces the officers elected for 1943. President Edder Herder, Chief Ad Richter, Assistant Chief John E Valenta, Secretary W C Schmidt, Treasurer Glade Welhausen, Chief Mechanic J E Valenta, Foreman Pumper W E Treptow, Assistant Foreman, Booster Pumper Hy See, Assistant Booster Pumper J E Kasper.
The Old Moulton Baptist Church announces Sunday services on December 20. Sunday School at 10:30 led by Mrs. P. P. Lockwell, Morning Worship at 11:15 with the pastor delivering the Christmas message. 7:15 Evening service features a special Christmas program led by Pastor G. E. Bottorff.
The Baptist Church lists a December 20 program with Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. preaching at 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. A 8:30 p.m. Xmas program follows. Wednesday and Thursday night services, led by Pastor Cecil Harper, resume usual times after Christmas. There is a Christmas message from Luke 2:11.

Christian Science notices announce that the Lesson Sermon for Sunday December 20 examines whether the universe including man evolved by atomic force. The golden text cites Acts 15 18 Know unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
Emmanuel Lutheran invites visitors to English services held every second and fourth Sunday of the month at 3 p m Pastor Henry C Nickel oversees the congregation and welcomes all in a cordial manner.

Twenty six year 2 1-2 per cent bonds due December 15, 1968 callable December 15, 1963. Issued in coupon or registered form at the option of the buyer. Commercial banks will not be permitted to hold these bonds until ten years after the date of issue. There is no limit on the amount any eligible investor may purchase. Interest is paid semi annually June 15 and Dec 15. The bonds will be sold in denominations from $500 to $100,000. In the event of the death of a holder the bonds may be redeemed at 100 per cent and accrued interest for federal estate taxes. Two series of shorter term obligations: (a) 13-4 per cent bonds due June 15, 1948, and (b) 7-8 per cent certificates of indebtedness due one year after issuance. These securities are open for subscription by banks, and also by all other classes of investors whether private, corporate or institutional.
Red Cross appeals for volunteers as the surgical dressing room closes for Christmas from December 18 to December 28. A large gauze shipment arrived and workers are needed to resume work after the holidays.

John Wagner, 78, died Sunday at 11:45 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Mary Wagner after a paralytic stroke. Funeral from Miss Justina Dusek’s home on Tuesday Dec 15 at 9:30 a.m. then Requiem High Mass at the Catholic Church. burial in local Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Kral, John Patek, Albert Havida, Anton Machart, Jim Svoboda, Frank Marek. Local KJT Society attended. Born in the old country, he came to America at sixteen. Lived with Vince Jansa family, Aug Kopec ky family, and last 22 years with Mrs. Mary Wagner’s family. Never married. Surviving nephew Isidor Wagner.
Members gathered in the Parish hall Monday evening to discuss Why All Should Attend Mass. Rev. Edmund Bily answered questions while leaders reported on religious instruction for children and Discussion Club Work of Religious Subjects. The organization, recently formed by Rt. Rev. R. E. Lucey, boasts seventy five active members.

War Price and Rationing Board member A H Kasper announces tire rules. A book holders are not eligible for passenger spare tires but may get recapping for a fifth tire and four running wheels with a patched spare to bring the motorist home. B and C book holders qualify for spare tires.
A wedding Tuesday at 6 p m joined Miss Erna Fehner and St Sgt G A Rindorf at United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev R Schuetze officiating and W J Koenning and Pfc Albert Mosmeyer as witnesses. The bride wore royal blue chiffon velvet and white chrysanthemums. the groom in uniform. After a supper at the Fehner home the couple left for San Angelo where the groom is stationed at Goodfellow Field. May God’s blessings be theirs.
The National Conference in Memphis issued changes for 1943 allowing acreage of designated essential feed crops and designated war crops to be substituted acre for acre for cotton toward 90 percent allotment and 90 percent War Crop Goal. This enables farmers to earn payments by growing corn grain sorghum oats tame hay and certain vegetables in place of cotton amid labor shortages. W. E. Cleveland, Sec. Lavaca Co. ACA.

A crossing accident near West last week killed Mr and Mrs John Bezdek and daughter Rosie as their car was struck by an interurban, dragging about 20 feet. Daughter Lillian, 13, was seriously injured while another daughter stayed home unharmed. A sister of Mrs Hanak was killed instantly and John Bezdek died the next day. Rosie died Friday at 2:30 am. services for Rosie were held December 14. The Bezdeks, devout Catholics, leave many survivors including several daughters and sons in the Army.
Mrs Jos Kasper reports her daughter Miss Bernita Heinsohn has advanced to CAF 6 Chief Supervisor in the Civil Service Commission. She now commands four supervisors and is stationed in Dalhart Texas for the service.
Roscoe H Canon and family reside in the Jap internment camp as a Business Men's Club event at Welhausen Park on Sunday December 20 at 6 p.m. features a community Christmas service with Lutheran Methodist Baptist Catholic choirs, readings, and an address by Supt. J Mil Auld. The program includes Silent Night with verses sung by mixed choirs and audience participation, followed by a benediction.
The Passenger Department of Southern Pacific Lines outlines holiday coach travel. Texas and Louisiana coaches will be available with preference for furloughees families of men at camps and military posts and government travelers. Extra coaches will be provided. civilian travel should be limited to necessary trips while all legitimate travel is accommodated.
The School Board and Superintendent announced that Christmas holidays begin Friday afternoon to comply with federal guidance on civilian travel after December 20. Classes resume January 4. No other holidays are planned. The high school band concert opens the break Friday at 2:30 PM.
