Judge Lichey presided as Mack Miller, a Black man, faced an examining trial in Shiner Saturday morning. Sheriff Greer and McElroy transported him from Hallettsville jail. County Clerk Bozka attended. County Attorney Fertsch represented the state. Miller was remanded to await further action with no bond, likely to be returned to the penitentiary from which he escaped. He had been sentenced from Harris County in June 1924 for seven firearm robbery cases and one burglary case, receiving 55 years.

Austin December 9. Fire marshal J J Timmins warns against candles at Christmas events and urges electric lights for trees to prevent past catastrophes. He cites the death of 23 people in a Christmas celebration at Babbas Switch Oklahoma last year as an example of candle dangers. Storage batteries should be used where current is unavailable.
Postmaster Koether and staff announce Sunday hours on Christmas Day with parcel delivery window. The Gazette notes no post office is required to provide service on Christmas Day, urging public appreciation for the gesture.
Messrs C B Peck Wel hausen W Paul Ed Herder M E and Edgar C Wolters and Fred C Krause attended the closing rally at Moulton last Friday night. They found it instructive and highly worthwhile. Senator Russek and Capt Schaffli were the main speakers. Since Moulton set an energetic example, Shiner precinct is expected to achieve greater success in launching and steering an election for better roads.
