John Nance Garner celebrated his ninety second birthday on November 22. The former Speaker and Vice President lives quietly in Texas and recalled promises kept in 46 years in public service. He praised his hometown paper and shared views on aging, politics, faith, and love. Mrs. Ettie Garner died in 1948.

Frank Boehm laid to rest after 71 years
Frank Boehm, age 71, died November 28 1960 at Wagner Memorial Hospital after a five day stay. Funeral services were held at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner and Shiner Catholic Church with interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He was born November 26 1889 in Komensky and married Martha Zinkler in 1918. He lived in Mora Via Breslau and Wit ting before moving near Shiner then worked for the Highway Department and the city. He later lived with his son Alfred Boehm and spent six months in Rose Garden Rest Home. He leaves a son Alfred Boehm of Shiner a daughter Esther Walicek of Yoakum four grandchildren and four brothers.

The Shiner Business Men's Club met November 29 at Legion Park with 32 members present. Minutes were approved, and a $3 birthday calendar bill was paid. PFC Clifford Hill Dies In France
The Robstown soldier PFC Clifford W. Hill was killed December 1 in France when his car side swiped a truck and hit a bridge. He had just turned 20 on August 15, 1960, and served with the 507th Engineer Co. (DM) overseas near Tule, France. Funeral details are pending until his body returns around December 11 to 14. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Nick A. Hill. Santa Claus arrives in Shiner Friday December 9 at Welhausen's Park with gifts, in a Chamber of Commerce event with a brief program by Shiner High School Band.

Rites Held Tuesday For John Onhaizer
Funeral services for John Onhaizer 89 of Yoakum were held Tuesday at Buffington Chapel St Ann's Catholic Church with Rev Father Edward J Jansky officiating. Rosary was recited Monday evening. Survivors include wife Mary and three daughters and three sons, plus nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He died December 4 in Yoakum after living in Lavaca and DeWitt counties since arriving from Czechoslovakia in 1871.
