A birthday party for James F. Burke marked his fifth birthday on November 26. Guests enjoyed games, a fern and chrysanthemum decorated dining room, a large sparkling candle cake, fruit and punch. Mr. Chas Flato Sr. and R. E. Welhausen with son Rudolph Jr. arrived from Kingsville last Tuesday. Theun couple now occupy Mrs. Herms cottage, vacated by E. J. Arnim family. Miss Vivian Valentine, from Sacred Heart Academy Hallettsville, spent Thanksgiving with her parents. Wendtland Bernhard Tomasco duck hunted at Tivoli and brought home the limit. Thanksgiving program at the M. E. Church drew good attendance and $5 was donated to the Orphanage. Miss Trautwein and her expression pupils earned praise for a literary treat.

The High Literary Society held a November 28 meeting with topics in brief by Herman Liebhafsky. A debate argued that the United States should intervene with Mexico, affirmatives led by Raymond Prasatik Elvera Herder, negatives by Charlie Kasper Stella Blohm. Reading School Mom's Courtier by Isabel Daniel. Judges Herman Liebhafsky Jeffrie Mikulik Alma Canon. They ruled unanimously for the affirmative. Roscoe Canon Returns Home After Navy Service

Roscoe Canon arrived home last week after serving in the U S Navy. He enlisted May 15, 1918, trained at Mare Island and Hampton Roads, served aboard the Minneapolis and Kelly, traveled from Spalato to New York via Gibraltar and the Azores, visiting Venice and Trieste. He was discharged November 22 and returned home November 26. He is proud of his honorable service and the world he saw.
