Rev. Wolfsdorf resigns after twenty six years as pastor of the Yoakum Lutheran church and will stay until a successor is found. He begins a charge at Shiner and has maintained near perfect accord with his congregation during a long tenure.
The dedication sermon for the new Shiner Baptist Church will be preached next Sunday December 5 at 11 a.m. by Rev. K. Penrod of Gonzales. Everyone is cordially invited.
The public is urged to cooperate with the postal service during the holidays. Prepay postage on all parcels, clearly mark sender name and address, pack securely but do not seal, as sealed parcels incur letter rate. Mail early and consider placing Do not open until Christmas on parcels and insure valuable items.
The Senior and Junior Epworth Leaguers presented a Thanksgiving program that drew a large audience. Children performed well under Miss Carlyn Trautwein’s guidance. A free-will offering of 13 dollars was collected for the Methodist Orphans Home at Waco.
The Jennings Company presents The Band The Minister in Shiner to a crowded audience. Performances featured careful acting with no buffoonery and a mirror to nature. Scenery and heating are praised as better than many modern opera houses. The show promises full houses all week.
Listings show Hugh G Roether transferring 25 acres in Anthony Brown League nine miles west of Hallettsville for 5000 dollars and undivided interest in land with a gin mill. Wm Green et al transfer 99.26 acres in John Gaeser survey Lavaca County. Anton Heinsohn to H J Koehn 1760 square varas east of Hallettsville with 25 dollars. Sallie Williams to Temple Lumber Co parcels and machinery in Shiner for 43279.21 dollars.
Mrs Pauline Fertsch and Miss E Benarden attended a birthday celebration hosted by Mr and Mrs Buske for the occasion of little James Buske turning six.
On Saturday evening at Mrs. Eliza Welhausen's home, Rev Rector and his wife were surprised with a shower. Guests gave groceries aluminum and linens as gifts. Herbert Runk won the most punches. Cakes and punch were served to Aid Society Junior and Senior League members.
The Hawaiian troupe of musicians from the Dixie Lyceum Company failed to arrive last Thursday night due to a delayed Southern Pacific Railroad train, causing much disappointment among organizers and patrons.
Among those spending Thanksgiving in our city were Philip Welhhausen and family with Mrs Eliza Welhausen, Roy Canon and family and Mr Shoe make and family from Halletts ville with Mr and Mrs J M Canon, Mrs Hy, Roski, Wm Roski and wife of Roundtop, with Louis Wagner.
On Sunday night November 28 Mr and Mrs William Eggert were surprised by about 85 relatives and friends for their 25th wedding anniversary. The party featured silver decorations a generous supper and music from a phonograph. Guests included H F Eblers Ad Zander B E Klostermann Chas Eggert Edj Albert Hermann Schrieber Henry Oltmanns Walter Oltmanns Olga Annie Brosseman Willie Arthur Schrieber and Fritze Hinze.
Louis Trautwein tells The Gazette his six line local advertisement for a car load of maize heads has kept him busy and all is now sold. He expects two more cars in a week or ten days.
Wm Wendtland Jr spends part of the week at A M College where a registered Holstein-Friesian bull is inoculated. The animal was recently shipped from New York state.
A regular meeting of the local Post of the American Legion is set for Wednesday December 8 at 7 30 p m. An annual election of officers will be held during the session.
Mrs W R Farquhar of Yoakum and Miss Marguerite Pugh of Victoria are visiting the home of Dr. E E Wilson.
