Death of Mrs. Mary Drabek at 72 in Shiner
Mrs. Mary Drabek aged 72 died after a prolonged illness at her Shiner home. Funeral was held Wednesday at 10 am in the Catholic cemetery with Rev. Father Sikora officiating. Born in Austria, she came to the United States about 1880, first living in Austin county, later moving to Lavaca county 28 years ago where her husband died ten years ago. She leaves eight children, five sons and three daughters. one son Rudolph died at 21. After life’s fitful fever she rests.

J. T. Fitch of Yoakum has been named Federal cotton gin statistician for Lavaca county. Lavaca county has 36 cotton gins and Fitch will begin rounds on September 1. Several gins may not operate this year due to crop shortages.

Moonlight Picnic Supports Shiner Cemetery Fund
The Shiner Cemetery Society thanks members and friends for generous help at the Welhausen Park moonlight picnic on Wednesday night. Women’s Auxiliary Reports on Hospital Workers Aid
The Women’s Auxiliary met at the Legion Home on the night of the 16th. A State Department report detailing receipts, expenditures, and services for ex service boys in hospitals was approved. Luther League Welcomes New Members and Confirms Youth
On Sunday evening August 21 the Luther League met in regular session with sixteen new members added to the roll and warmly welcomed by Rev. Wolfsdorf. Thirty youths were confirmed and honored with entertainment followed by a lunch of ice cream cake and sandwiches. A few games and arts left Willie Jonery and Margaret Liebhafsky receiving small perfume prizes as the gathering ended cheerfully.
