Crop Report Sends Cotton Up Five Dollars a Bale

New York aug 8 cotton prices rose over five dollars a bale after government crop estimates predicted a smaller than expected harvest by about one million bales. The October future topped seven cents a pound as a mill syndicate backed by banks reportedly planned to take over cotton holdings of the federal farm board and cooperatives, fueling the sharpest monthly advance since May 1930.

Lutheran Ladies Aid Meets at United Dr. Martin Luther Church

The Lutheran Ladies Aid Society held a 3 P.M. meeting at United Dr. Martin Luther Church with 70 members present and two guests Miss Ella Morhrhusen of La Grange and Mrs. Wilber Minear. Rev J C A Pfenninger led devotional services and a musical program followed by a reading. A special offering went to Lutheran Hospital at Cuero and lunch was served in Luther Hall. Former Grid Star Is Buried

Danny McMurrey former Texas Aggie grid star died in a Houston hospital and was buried in Shiner after funeral services. The 1917 tackle helped the Aggies defeat Texas 7 0 and led an undefeated season. He later headed an auto agency in West Columbia and remained active with Aggie alumni.
