Baker Delivers No-Hit Start in 12-Inning Brewers Win

Ernest Baker of the Shiner Brewers hurled 10 innings of no-hit ball in Victoria. The Roz buds finally broke through in the 11th and 12th, but Randon blasted a three run homer in the 12th to lift Shiner to a 3 to 1 Gulf Coast Amateur League victory. Baker fanned 12, walked one, and benefited from strong defense and base running miscues by Victoria. Alfred Schoener pitched for Victoria in a masterful effort but took the loss.

Two Local Young Ladies Pass State Board In Cosmetology

Miss Elsie Werner of Alamo Beauty College San Antonio has completed her course and earned a state cosmetology license. She currently assists at Mrs. Hinze's Beauty Shop during her vacation. Bernice Blume, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Blume, also passed the state board and will start a beauty shop business in Nordheim. The community congratulates both on their success.

Anton Petru and Josephine Stary Wed at Yoakum Church

Anton Petru son of Mrs Marie Petru Shiner and Josephine Stary daughter of Mr and Mrs Mat Stary Yoakum were married at Yoakum Catholic Church. Rev G Kuratko performed the ceremony with witnesses Adolf Janca and J F Peters. The bride wore white satin with veil and orange blossom bouquet. Attendants were Marie Janca and Raymond Hermes. An all day celebration followed with a platform dance. The couple will reside in Shiner where the groom works at Spetzl Brewery.

Soft Ball Standings and Week Recap

The second half season opened with Charlottenburg beating Kaspar Wire Works. Brewers defeated Wolters Bros while Shiner Motor Sales beat Magnolia. Gulf and Shiner pulled ahead. Magnolia fell to Gulf. The Zachery Road Rooters drew 400 for their last stand as Humble Yoakum two teams prepare for upcoming games.

Lutheran Women's Society met at Lutheran Church

The Lutheran Women's Society met Wednesday afternoon July 26 at the Lutheran Church. Members and guests discussed convention reports from Houston July 19–20 and noted officers would retain responsibilities for another year. A Silver Tea was planned for September with further plans to be discussed August 16.

Death of Henry Wenske Sr. in Shiner at 79

Henry Wenske Sr. died after a six week illness on Sunday July 30 at noon. Requiem High Mass was celebrated at St Marys Church by Monsignor Netardus with graveside rites by Rev. E Bily. He was born in Germany in 1875 and lived in Shiner, Gillette, Maurin, and then the family homestead. Survived by Mary Sommers his wife of 1897, two sons Adolf and Henry, three grandchildren, five brothers August John Charlie Paul Julius, one sister Mrs Rud Bartsch, and one brother Theo predeceased. Funeral details noted with large attendance and flowers.

Josef Elsik Funeral in Kingsville July 30 at 3 PM

Obituary and funeral notice for Josef Elsik born November 15 1862 in Zadverice Morava Europe. Immigrated 1880 to America settling in Buttersville Fay ette County later moving to Kingsville Kleberg Co Texas. Survived by two wives and many children and grandchildren with 1932 widower status. The Shiner Business Men’s Club met July 27 at Pohler's Cafe with fourteen members. L. E. Denemark presided. minutes approved. Nominating Committee proposed B. R. Holchak as President James Burke as Vice-President and Mrs. Ella E. Lane as Secretary-Treasurer. The slate was unanimously elected for the ensuing year. No further business, meeting adjourned.

City Marshall J M Canon sustained a facial cut that required several stitches after a horse on Mrs Eula Schultz farm reared up last Thursday morning. The injury is painful but healing nicely and authorities note he escaped more serious harm.

Assembly at Shiner Largely Attended Encampment

The Yoakum District Methodist Encampment attracted 188 attendees including 188 students and teachers. Activities featured morning watches led by Charles Munson, twice daily classes, forums for adults, vesper services, special musical numbers, and a Lord's Supper conclusion. Twenty-five towns were represented. The organizers praised the week and pledged to return bigger next year.

New Photographer in Town Opens Brown's Studio

Earl E. Brown formerly of Yoakum opens Brown's Studio in the Koch Building next to the Gazette Office. He offers portraits, enlarging, oil tinting, Kodak finishing, copying old pictures, and specializes in wedding pictures. He has run this line with his father in Yoakum and invites the public to inspect his work.
