Miraculous Escape At City Rail Crossings

A dramatic Sunday morning accident left L. G. and John Valenta shaken after their Buick was crushed at three railroad crossings in the heart of the business district. John leaped free as a flat car struck the auto, Lottie rolled clear and escaped injury as the car was torn apart. Lottie, bruised, continues as Oil Mill Garage manager, hailed for presence of mind that saved both men. Loftie.

Yoakum District Ginners Open Sixth Annual Meet at Goethe Park

The Yoakum District Ginners Association opened a one day session at Goethe Park on July 95th, drawing the largest attendance in its history. Speakers addressed the assembly as a barbecue lunch paused proceedings before resuming. T. M. Nowlin presented Ealing cotton and a motion authorized Philip Welhausen to draft resolutions opposing tariff cuts on vegetable oils. Louis Trautwein of Shiner was named on the program committee and reelected Secretary Treasurer for the sixth term. The outgoing officers were thanked for their services. Yoakum remains the permanent meeting place.

Nordheim Council to curb public jazz dancing petitioned

Mrs E J Tomasco hosted a Friday Five Hundred Club evening with five tables of players. After games a salad, punch and cake were served. Attendees included Misses Elsie Dziewas Emily Schmidt Elvera Herder Elia Annie Louise Plageman Thedra Whitaker Bay City Louise Thuelmeyer Hila Ehlers and many others. Annie Louise Plageman won high score earning cut glass ice tea glasses while Mrs Sandford received clothes pins as consolation.
