Wedding Unites Laura Michaelis and John Strban at Witting Church

Miss Laura Michaelis of Witting and Mr John Strban of Shiner were married April 10 1934 at 4 30 PM in Witting Lutheran Church with Rev A H Talkenburg officiating. Attendants included Selma Michaelis as bridesmaid and Paul Strban as best man. A wedding dinner followed at the bride’s home as guests extended best wishes.

Public School PTA Hosts April Meeting Highlights

The regular meeting of the public school P I A on April 12 led by president Mrs Wm Wendt Jr covered committee appointments for banquet equipment and carpentry work. Superintendent McDonald praised Parents Visiting Day and urged continued parent visits as 73 members including new member Mrs Ola Garret were noted. The secretary read the full membership and discussed Humane Education Work aligned with Be Kind to Dumb Animals week. Plans for May festival and a May 10 music program were set with volunteer committees.

Paved Streets Near in Shiner Town

The dream of a life time nears realization as four business district intersections are paved with Limestone Rock Asphalt from Uvalde mines. Mayor Richter says principal streets will soon receive the same treatment, praised for durability, repair ease, and cost. A Southern Pacific road master noted heavy use and potential full city connections. The Corner Drug Store Welhausen's intersection paving completed last week received wide approval.

Game and Fish Protective League Plans Annual Meeting

The Game and Fish Protective League of Shiner invites members and prospective members to its regular monthly meeting and annual outdoor entertainment on Wednesday April 25 1934 at 6 30 p m at the Welhausen pasture camp site. The league promotes outdoor recreation conservation and stocking streams with game fish offering an all year resort with a small dam to be built. Memberships are affordable with a full year’s benefit starting now and six month joiners pay the same as twelve months.

Business Men's Club Holds Regular Meeting

A score of members met in regular session on Thursday night of the Business Men's Club. After the invocation by Supt. McDonald, Pres. Kaspar led the meeting with routine business. Mayor Richter listed A. G. Zoll of White's Uvalde Mines as a guest and Zoll spoke on the dependability of Lime stone Rock Asphalt mine products for paving.

Mrs. Chas. H. Flato Sr. Dies in San Antonio Hospital

Mrs. Chas. H. Flato Sr. died after swift transport from Kingsville to a San Antonio hospital. She was 77 years old. Services were held at City Cemetery at 4 PM with burial on the family plot. Surviving are R. G. Flato of Kingsville and Edwin of Corpus Christi. She was born Sophia Mewes in Alleyton Colorado County and was the last of her family. A longer notice will follow next week.

St Lud Mila’s Senior Class Play Praised by Packed House

A large audience witnessed St Lud Mila’s Academy Senior Class present For the Love of Johnny. Under Miss Ella Lillian Stratman’s guidance the cast delivered solid performances with Susie Marek Vlasta Baros and Ella Seidenberger standout. Joe Novak Jr. Tim Bily Alois Janak and Emmett Schroeder impressed in key roles while Benedict Janak as Johnny and Mr Woods offered a convincing double turn. High School Orchestra directed by Mrs Thulemeyer provided music including a saxophone solo by Idella Othold. Gross receipts reached 70 dollars signaling a full house and generous audience praise.

Funeral of F. J. Huebner At Evangelical Lutheran Church

Funeral services were held Wednesday of last week at the Evangelical Lutheran church for F. J. Huebner. Rev. Schuetze and Rev. Horak of Caldwell conducted rites. the O. D. H. S. gave a ritualistic service. Pallbearers included W. O. Huebner A. L. Huebner John Pany Otto Muenich Frank and F. W. Offenberger. A pioneer and prominent local citizen, his death is deeply mourned.

Menger School Home and School Circle Plans Spring Fair

The Home and School Circle of Menger School met on Monday night April 6 and completed plans for the school fair. The treasurer reported $29.89 on hand. The last meeting of the term will be May 4 and will be a social gathering with members asked to bring lunch.
