The city audit shows many customers owe light and water bills. The power plant must run on a business basis with fixed rules. All past due bills must be paid by May 10 or service will be cut and delinquents named.
At the regular meeting of the Shiner Chamber of Commerce J C Blohm declined re election and C J Waldrep was unanimously elected President Also elected were H H Striebeck Vice President Peck Welhausen Treasurer and directors Frank Tassler Jr John Elsik and E C Merseburger Reports included Yoakum Chamber progress on rail lines and Highway 109 boosters Work noted on Community Chest funds with a $50 donation approved and carried unanimously The meeting adjourned with no further business

He notes long residence in the county, voluntary retirement, return to office four years ago, and broad recognition as a capable peace officer. He invites voters to inspect his record and consider his candidacy carefully.
The Gazette endorses E A Turk for Tax Assessor in Lavaca County. Turk seeks re election in the Democratic primary in July after more than 20 years in the office. He vows to continue reliable service if re elected and asks voters to consider his candidacy in July.
F. J. and Misses Emilie and Idella Picha spent Sunday in Temple and returned home with their father who has been at the bedside of his son George for the past week.

At the April seventh meeting Mrs. Arthur Kaspar presided. April library appointments were made for Mrs. James Michna and Miss Mabel Merrem. Ten new books were added to the library. An afternoon program featured Women In Music with selections from Great Composers and vocal solos by regional performers including Mrs. Hughs and Mrs. Wolters. Guests Mrs. Green and Mrs. Denmark attended.
Michna school will host a program at Vlastenec Hall next Tuesday at o'clock. Admission is 25 cents for adults, free for school children. Good music and a free dance after the program. Everyone is invited.
A cool spell around 38 degrees since Sunday brought a light frost Tuesday morning. Strong Sunday winds damaged crops and vegetation, with many reporting near total fruit loss from trees. Local observers note effects across the Sandy Land area.
The Lutheran Ladies Aid met on Wednesday April 6 at 3 o clock in Dr Martin Luther Church. Rev Pfenninger led scripture and prayers, followed by talks on a trip to Sweetwater and an ocean voyage to America. Seventy? guests attended. 68 members were present and lunch was served. The Shiner Business Men's Club meets in regular session to day at noon at the Royal Cafe. A full attendance of the membership is desired.
Big improvement at the Palace with new sound and film equipment. Opening Sunday April 17 features Greta Garbo in Mati Hare, inviting audiences to hear as well as see.

Due to events at the Methodist Church the Bluebonnet Music Club will meet April 15 at the home of Stella and Edwin Novak. Margaret Eric Leslie reports.
After two years in the picture show business the Palace Theatre has discarded old gear and installed the latest sound-on-film system with new machines screen horn and more. An expert engineer completed setup and the big opening is planned for Sunday April 17 featuring Greta Garbo in Matri Hari.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Church will hold their annual tea and parcel post sale next Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2:30 in the Blohm building. Public invited.
St Ludmila’s Academy hosted a public program honoring George Washington. Students competed in playlets with notable Colonial Dance impersonations by Frances Elaine and Robert James Wagner. The PTA sold lunch proceeds totaling $17.60, benefiting the school.
The Catholic Dramatic Club met at the Parish Hall Tuesday night April 5 with songs and prayer. New members Henry Marek Emil Lahodny and Frank Tesar were welcomed. A motion carried to hold an old time dance April 20 at the American Legion Hall. A second play is planned once director W J Janecek recovers from illness. Next meeting is first Tuesday in May with a large turnout urged.

Charlottenburg farmers set Friday night gatherings starting April 15 at 8 p m. The April 2 meeting discussed continuing weekly sessions or ending by May 1 or June 1. Mr Kingen will discuss poultry care and answer related questions and attendees are urged to show appreciation for his service. A E Tampke.
The Flatonia Cemetery Association announces annual Decoration Day on Sunday April 17 at 2 pm. Rev. W. E. Wisseman will deliver the memorial address. All with loved ones buried in Flatonia cemetery are urged to attend to honor their memory at the resting place.
The St. Ludmila P.T.A. met Monday April 4 at 3 p.m. A brief program preceded the business session with piano solos by Alois Cervenka and Janice Michna, flute by Edwin Novak, recitations by Frances Wagner and Fay Fischnar. Four new members joined. next meeting set for May 2.
A nationwide radio panorama on April 18 at 8 30 p m est will highlight Texas history culture and industry. The National Broadcasting Company network of over forty stations will air scenes of cotton turkeys and pecans noting San Jacinto celebrations and featuring songs from Sam Houston era and plains cowboys and rangers.
Mrs J P Bartek, a Methodist missionary in Prague Czechoslovakia, occupied the pulpit at the Methodist Church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. She presented interesting information and a history of missionary work in Europe. Her talk was much enjoyed by all present.
