Mr and Mrs O A Kosler celebrate the arrival of a son born last Wednesday at the local hospital weighing 9 pounds 14 ounces both mother and baby healthy though the father is excitedly amused by the news. The infant was baptized on Saturday by Monsignor Netardus and named Kirwin Joseph with sponsors Otto and Agnes Havel. Mrs Kosler is Helen Havel R N and formerly hospital superintendent.

United Dr Martin Luther Church Services and Easter Note

United Dr Martin Luther Church lists Sunday School Junior League and Divine Service with English services and no evening service. April 19 2:30 pm Women Society and April 20 7:30 pm Brotherhood. St Ludmila's PTA met April 3 1939 at 3 30 pm in the academy classroom. Treasurer reports 19 77 balance and 22 50 from high school students for gowns. Motions set payments for baseball gear and graduation gowns 97 50 plus 1 50 per graduate. Open House April 16 with lunch and angel food cakes planned. Decoration Day Services Well Attended

Decoration Day services at Shiner’s City of the Dead drew attendees from near and far. Walter Schmidt chaired the program with Rev. Burns giving the invocation, Rev. Guyon and Rev. Wolfsdorf delivering English and German addresses, Lutheran Choir singing I Am Praying for You, Mrs. Lane’s poem set to violin by Mrs. Max L. Wolters, and Nearer My God to Thee sung before Rev. Schuetze gave the benediction.

The Tom Padgitt Company of Waco sold its plant equipment for collar pads and related items. About 15 families will relocate from Waco to train and operate the new machinery at once.

Shiner Brewers win second Gulf Coast game over Refugio

Shiner pitchers Baker and Turek held Refugio to six hits as the Brewers rallied in the eighth for an 8 to 6 victory. Refugio led 6 to 5 after seven, but Shiner collected three runs with a string of base hits. Kubala started for Refugio, Tiger relieved and took the loss. Randon caught for Shiner with Keen Autry and Baker Turek at the plate. Next Sunday Shiner hosts Victoria Rosebuds, co-leaders with Shin er and Edna.

Shiner dedicates new gym and auditorium with public address

The community celebrates a 1000 seat gymnasium and auditorium in Shiner with a dedication by Hon E Paulus and speakers Rev Father Beck C H die traveling PWA Engineer. Lavaca County votes 40000 in road bonds plan

In Hallettsville April 9 voters in Lavaca County district two approved 40000 in special bonds to improve lateral roads. With a WPA grant the project could exceed 150000 total. Two and a half miles of road on each side of the Yoakum Hallettsville Schulenburg highway from South Mustang Creek to the Lavaca Fayette line will be affected. The tally was 390 for 93 against.
