Receiver Appointed for Errince Jewelry Store in Sheridan

A petition filed in court Thursday led to James E. Kercheval being named receiver for Charles J. Crawford, husband of petitioner Mrs. Louisa Crawford. Crawford's Sheridan jewelry business holds a large stock, and debts include $1150 in borrowed money plus wholesale charges. The receiver will manage the store economically until further court disposition.

Governor Marshall to Speak in Sheridan Next Tuesday

Australians Plan Big Immigration Drive From Victoria

G H Palmer and John P Jack met Dr Elwood Mead in Indianapolis after a telegram inviting them to discuss settlers for Victoria Australia. Mead, Purdue graduate, ex UC irrigation chair, now heads Victoria water supply and riparian rights. He travels with others to boost settlement, sugar beet, and alfalfa industries. They tour until November, noting Victoria’s climate similar to California and Australia’s vast, underpopulated, high per capita production.

The Indianapolis Star published photos of W. H. and T. D. Baker. George B. Maltby of Aurora, also born September 21, 1838, writes that Maltby is a twin who shares the birthday with the Bakers. The four men are living in good health. Maltby also has two twin sons.

Death of John W. Bogan Near Kirklin

John W. Bogan died suddenly at his home near Kirklin on Sunday night from heart trouble. He was about 60 years old and was buried Tuesday at Bogantown church.

Kirklin Teenager Killed in Train Collision

Roy Bantin, 17, son of Mr and Mrs Witla Bantin of near Kirklin, was instantly killed when passenger train No 36 struck his buggy at the south town crossing at 4 am Saturday. The horse survived. no witnesses, train crew unaware until a lap robe fluttered from the engine. Funeral held Monday at Mud Creek.

Sheridan Canning Co. Eyes Plant Expansions and Local Growth

L N Joseph president of Sheridan Canning Co says this season's pack looks strong with 224 acres of sweet corn and 200 acres of tomatoes. Farmers earned 25 to 50 dollars per acre, and frosted crops could boost the outlook. Proposals include building a factory to manufacture cans and a unit to make boxes, creating more local employment. Adams township farmers remain loyal to Sheridan.

Business Men Aim to Form Sheridan Branch

A. Bogue of Indianapolis secretary of the Indiana Business Men's Association interviewed Sheridan merchants Tuesday. He seeks to form a local branch with plans meeting approval of most businessmen. A meeting to organize will be held tonight in the News office room above to start the movement.

Carnival attractions by Lon Dale to visit next week

Lon Dale toured Monday arranging acts for a forthcoming carnival. He plans a high dive act a ferris wheel an ocean wave and vaudeville and plantation shows. He previously appeared at the last carnival with a set of attractions.

The high school football season begins Saturday as Kirklin travels to Brazil to face their team. Kirklin is set to appear there on the afternoon of October.
