Noblesville Indiana draws grand jury and petit jury for October term. Names include Bb. F. Roberts Henry Mabrey N Q Stanbrough and Shuler Pike among others. Also reports on bridge costs taxes court actions divorces wills and a denied marriage license case.
The year’s Lyceum program begins next month with a concert by the Southern Musical Company on October 27 at the Hippodrome theatre. Other acts include the Chicago Lyceum Players’ Sarah Side Steps on December 11 and honors speaker Webster Davis on January 25 in a talk on Constructive patriotism. J Coates Lockhart and his Scotch Lassies perform March 7, with Joseph Crowell closing April 3. Guarantors meet Monday night at the Ford building.
Sheridan and surrounding area lost rail service Saturday due to a head on collision of two freighters near Frankfort. Crews escaped unharmed as one locomotive and a cabbage car were damaged. Monon trains detoured via Pennsylvania lines from Indianapolis until late afternoon clearance.
Precinct committeemen and party workers review registration figures and prepare the sixty day poll. A study of the first registration day is not satisfactory and a large number must be registered before October ninth or boards will be unable to handle them on that day.
Charley Ringer sold his seventy acre farm half a mile south of Sheridan to A F E Walker for 14000 and bought from Elijah Jay heirs a fifty two acre farm two miles east of Sheridan for 10400. The Jay farm had not changed hands since 1867. Ringer to take possession by January first with Fred Jesup Realty handling signatures of five heirs in Indiana and Ohio.
The Town Board, after a near two hundred Sheridan residents protested, postponed buying a Stutz fire truck. They also ordered preliminary street-improvement work and plan active construction when weather permits next spring.
The law office of R. Griffin, in quarters above the American State Bank since 1888, has moved to Suite 2 in the Farmers Bank building. Fred O. Lanham also took room 6 in the same building, and the Griffin space will be used temporarily as Republican headquarters.
The Riley Reddington residence on West Second Street sold Tuesday through Cox & Cooper to W. H. Bennett for 2500 dollars. The Reddingtons have purchased property in Frankfort. The first frost of the season occurred Monday night, about twelve days behind the average for this community.
A large crowd attended a Noblesville meeting Tuesday afternoon where county taxpayers opposed additional road building at this time.
Catalogue and sale bills for the Big Type hog sale of C. A. Wright will be held Tuesday October 1st. The News job department printed the materials this week.

The Lloyds of Indianapolis launched a Sheridan to Indianapolis Noblesville bus service with two daily round trips. Morning departures are 7 10 from Sheridan via Jolietville Eagletown Westfield and Range Line to Indianapolis arriving 8 55, return at 9 and 10 50. Afternoon trip at 3 00 to Sheridan returning 7 00. Fare is 70 cents each way. A separate Noblesville line departs at 11 50 with an option to connect via Westfield for earlier travelers. Sheridan stop at Quick Service Restaurant.
John W. Stone, longtime associate of the local telephone system, is leaving Sheridan at week’s end to oversee troubleshooting at a three hundred phone plant in Upland. The Sheridan and Noblesville troubles are reportedly to be handled by a Noblesville man, prompting concerns among Sheridan patrons about potentially reduced local service.
The Thistlethwaite Eagle Creek drain petition, filed by J. Fred Stahl and neighbors in Big Spring, seeks relief from high west Sheridan waters. The proposed five to six mile drainage would affect thousands of acres, with costs running into thousands of dollars, and will be docketed in Boone circuit court on October 30.
About one hundred acres in the area will be harvested for seed using the Johnson bean harvester which slashes cost from 40 60 cents per bushel to 5 cents. Yield is expected around 22 25 bushels per acre with seed beans near $2.00. Caterers include Walter Sturdivant and the Johnson brothers. Purdue reports boost bean feeds as mill substitutes. Planting distances vary from 21 to 28 inches.
Sheridan High School defeated Elwood 21 0 in the opening game, scoring three touchdowns and one goal while showing strong offense and defense. Coach Bradley praised his mainly varsity group, with key plays from Burton Parr and Weaver, as Westfield High School looms next at Compton's Park.
G H Palmer, who had a surgical operation at the Mayo Hospital in Rochester Minnesota last month, returned home Saturday and is on the road to recovery. He has been about town this week receiving congratulations from friends.
In Clinton County a three day grand jury session adjourned on Saturday returning nine indictments. The proceedings concluded with multiple cases slated for further court action.
