A boy named Ora Beard aged 14 was instantly killed by a lightning bolt southwest of Westfield while visiting his uncle. The same storm struck a tree in Westfield, where two girls were injured.

A freight train wreck just north of Broad Ripple on the Monon line Tuesday afternoon delayed traffic for several hours. Passengers for areas north of Monon were rerouted while local traffic waited for passage to be effected. The accommodation train was delayed about an hour with two cars damaged and several ties affected.
