Indiana State Fair opens in Indianapolis next week with reports predicting record crowds. The Monon railroad will operate a special 9:40 departure for fairgoers, replacing the usual accommodation train, leaving Union Station at 6 and the fairgrounds at 6 30 p.m. The round trip fare is one dollar.

Localized Storm Ends Extreme Heat Spell
A heavy rain swept through Saturday evening ending several days of extreme heat. Hail fell east of town and corn damage was reported with some fields blown down making harvest difficult.
County Officials Inspect Bridges North of Town
Commissioners Beals Metsker and Clark with Surveyor Johnson rode in an innis Buick runabout to inspect bridges and begin work on the Hillick Free Gravel road four miles north of town. W S McMurtry appointed inspector.

Lectures by Dr E H Lindley, Prof H W Stopher, Prof Clem, J F Haines, and E J Llewelyn inspired practical classroom ideas. A mandolin orchestra by Charles Wann impressed trustees and visitors as the week closed with high expectations for the new school year.
