Monday night regular town board session had only two members present due to Andy Weaver’s absence. The board discussed various topics informally and approved bills including Fort Wayne Electric Works for 2.5 dollars and Varney Electric Supply Co for 5.04 along with street and sewer payroll totaling 51.50.
A Monday night reception at the Knights of Pythias hall honored Mr and Mrs Gene Williams and Mr and Mrs O A Cox as they depart Sheridan for California. J Mendenhall presided and presented Cox a Post Chancellor jewel and Williams a Weights jewel. The event included an impromptu program and social games as members bid farewell. Williams and family have already left. the Coxes plan to leave after Thanksgiving with Mrs Cox’s Pittsburgh parents.
R M Williamson hosted a duck supper to settle a bet on Landis' Hamilton County vote majority. Participants guessed vote totals: Williamson 1442, Thistlethwaite 1250, Palmer 1200, Thistlethwaite 925. Five guests joined at the Race restaurant for roast duck and sides.
Friday in town John Clark the horse buyer provoked a dispute with W J Richardson over the best saddle horse. They displayed their animals at 10 o clock Monday. Clark’s son rode his mare while Bill Richardson’s mare was ridden by Ed Barnes. Jim Campbell acted as judge and awarded first money to Clark. Both horses proved good saddlers and scarce in the country.
Boxley high school topped Carmel by 16 to toll in a spirited game praised for head work and tough play. The match was played at Carmel with Boxley players praising the hostile treatment. A season game is set for tomorrow as Boxley visits Sheridan on West Sixth Street. admission 25 cents with ladies free.
The school is asked to provide its yearly Thanksgiving offering at the school house. The old Union Aid Society will oversee the event. A representative from every church is requested to assist in distributing the offerings.
Sheridan High School beat Westfield 6 to 0 on Saturday. Officials Prof Burton and Marvin Thistlethwaite received praise for fair officiating and crowd management. Players Clint Harris Moreland Cox Williamson Abbott Kercheval Dragoo Johnson starred on both sides. Sheridan sends a large supportive crowd and hopes other county schools imitate the example.
The High School Alumni Association presents a musical entertainment next Thursday evening at the Opera House. A small admission charge will fund the Alumni Association. A quick glance at the program promises an entertaining show worth hearing.
A small Friday night audience at the Opera House attended a concert by Swiss performers. The ensemble showed strong vocal and instrumental skills but the crowd appreciated them less due to language barriers. They deserved higher patronage.
