At the Methodist church on Sunday morning the topic is The Primrose Path. Due to the Memorial sermon at 2 30 the evening service features a sacred concert by the choir and orchestra of Mr Beauchamps Sunday school class with special morning music. A representative of the Anti Saloon League will speak at Sunday night services.
James R. Christian through Floyd Christian filed a receiver petition stating the firm faces insolvency with no assets to meet debts. Judge Christian appointed Geo. Bowen receiver to take charge of the plant and continue publication until disposition.
Local entries for the State track meet at Lafayette list Eliot Davis in the 100 yard dash and relay squads including Davis Griffin Williams Elliott Clark and Brightmire. Thirty three high schools will be represented. In Columbus Merchandise Co. v Back, Dr. A B Back argued and sassed during questioning, was warned, then slammed a document on the floor and spoke sharply again prompting courtroom anger.
Joe Ray, 59, suffered a stroke Saturday in his blacksmith shop and died Monday evening after being unable to recover. He leaves a wife, four sons, and a daughter. Funeral at Friends church, Rev. Hutchens, Crown View cemetery. A severe rain and wind storm then caused damage to awnings, trees, and a barn near L. A. Staley’s property, with hail reported in some areas.
Fifth street residents complain of fast autos endangering children on White and Fifth avenues. Parents vow to seek legal relief if nuisance continues, aiming to enforce an eight mile per hour speed limit.
George Manwarring of Atlanta led a party in a Buick when Miss Bachman who drove lost control near John Crawford’s home three miles east of Atlanta. The car tumbled into a two foot water filled ditch. Eight year old Mable Coffman and others escaped. three year old Orla Bachman was pulled alive but unconscious. Drs. checked all aboard. only possible internal injuries to the child. The car was freed and towed back to Atlanta at about twenty miles per hour.
About forty or fifty members of the G A R and W R C attend the thirtieth annual G A R Encampment and twenty sixth annual W R C convention in Crawfordsville. Exercises began Wednesday and continue through today. The post marched on Wednesday with a sheep skin band led by J M Spencer.
The board met Monday night in a quiet session approving three claims: J. L. Vickery 1.80, J.S. Shannon 63.17, A. C. Pearson 25.00. W. L. Northam, agent for Cole auto, sold a car to Dr. J. W. Fancher, a three passenger air cooled auto with solid tires and a 14 horsepower engine.
Measles cases have appeared among local children with no severe illness so far. No pneumonia cases reported yet. Township assessors have completed their spring work and are filing reports with the Auditor.
Work on the Methodist parsonage begun last Friday progresses rapidly toward occupancy. The $2600 residence contract is held by Sim Cox and requires a complete ready to move in home.
John N. Cooper dies at his west Third Street home after months of illness. He leaves a wife two sons Dr. W.E. Cooper of this place and James R. Cooper of Frankfort and two daughters Miss Mary and Mrs. J. H. Pierce of Louisville. His funeral was held Monday at Hills Cemetery with ministers Rev. Ricketts and Rev. [ends abruptly].
The local F. and A. Masons lodge will visit the Noblesville lodge this afternoon and tonight with a large turnout expected.
The Atlanta Tin Plate Mills posted notices that they will resume operations again the first of the month after a shutdown of several months.
Mr and Jas H Pierce, who came to attend the funeral of John N Cooper, departed for Louisville Kentucky today returning home after the service.
