The report covers adjournment and contract matters in Fall Creek townships, bids and reports related to ditch work, and a committee update on education manuscripts. It notes a Marion county case awaiting hearing, Tom Sohl's appeal for Harvey Passwater's release, and divorce filing by Howard Fickle citing separation and jealousy.
A mass meeting is set for Tuesday evening May 19 at 7 30 at the Christian church. The Flying Squadron temperance group hosts Mrs Culla J Wayhinger Rev W D Parr and Everett R Naltzger with his pianist. Speakers carry statewide reputations and church civic endorsements.
Elmer Underwood sold his eighty acre farm three miles south of Sheridan to Ernest Mabrey for 15000 dollars with possession to be given October first. Underwood had purchased the farm last fall from S J Hinshaw for 14806 dollars and, with his crops, expects a good profit.
About twenty rural carriers from across the county met in the Red Men hall Saturday night to elect officers for the coming year and choose delegates to the state convention. Hamilton county earns four delegates: Emor Baker, John Pritsch of Sheridan, W Inman of Fishers, and W H Ludlum of Noblesville. E B Lane of Atlanta was chosen president with Walter Pritsch of Sheridan as vice president and P A Bray of Noblesville as secretary treasurer. Postmaster Couch and deputy Roy Couch became honorary members. The group adjourned to Walter Pritsch’s home for refreshments and social time. Approximately 36 carriers exist in the county, all male except Mrs. George Young of Noblesville, who was not present.
Fourteen young men and eight young women form the Sheridan high school class twenty two for graduation at the Christian church tonight. Dean Walter T. Sumner of Chicago delivers the class address. Roster includes Merrill Johnson Phil Williams Leland Faussett Isaac Williams Bert Greenlee and others. Edith Dennis gives the Salutatory and Phil Williams delivers the Valedictory. Supt. J. W. Kirk presents diplomas.
Sheridan school board announced new staff including J. W. Kirk as Superintendent, June W. Teter as high school principal and science head, Omer L Loop in history and early English, with several vacancies in English, mathematics, domestic science, and language. Building principals include Chas L Martin at the south building with Della Pogue and Letha Kercheval in department work, and a roster of grade teachers Ada Plew, Chester Boone, Lucy Thompson, Grace Hanson, Lilly Carter, Edith Cox, Fern Branson, Bert Haughey, and others.
Late reports indicate the prospect for a flourer crop this year is excellent. The late freeze did not injure the spring sown crop. Farmers report a good stand and recent rains make fields look attractive. Meadows and pastures are fine and hay wheat and oats appear strong. Corn planting, though delayed by rain, is as far along as usual. No discouraging features in crop prospects.
Michael Blessing of Sheridan was robbed near the State House on Senate avenue while en route to his department headquarters at the state encampment in Indianapolis last week. He lost a pocketbook containing three dollars in silver and his railroad ticket and could not find a nearby policeman to report the incident.
Hamilton county Sunday school convention to be held at Carmel May 23 24 features speakers Rev F A Hall Noblesville Rev R H Montgomery Atlanta and Rev L H Graham Sheridan. J A Branson of Sheridan is association president.
Adams Township records show 611 youths aged 6 to 21 unmarried this year, down from 612 in 1913. Burgess Singleton and Glen Moore conducted the enumeration, with Singleton noting thirteen years in the work and a long record in the field. In another item, The Sirklin Telephone Co. formed with 15000 capital, with incorporators William M. Turner E. P. es and J. M. Turner. Oscar Hiatt of Hortonville associated with Eat the Racket store of E. E. small at Carmel.
W H Hill, longtime principal of the local schools, will move to Boulder to attend the state university. He plans to teach in Colorado next year, citing his wife’s health and the family doctor’s advice as the reason for the move.
Earl Matthews of Clinton County died Tuesday morning from spinal trouble at about four miles northwest of Sheridan. He was 30, survived by a wife and three children. Funeral services were held Tuesday with burial at Crown View. News office advertisement notes name cards are 50 cents per 100.
John W. Reagan appeared before Squire Steffy on a surety proceeding started by his father Eli Reagan after a disturbance at home on Monday. Reagan was bound over to court under a $600 bond.
W H Ellis and Arza Smith returned Friday from a three week southern states trip. In Alabama they visited Ellis's sons and purchased a farm near Marbury. They report crops favorable with corn over a foot high. In a separate incident, James Cornell's four year old son near Terhune broke his right leg when a motorcycle fell on him.
Damp cool weather slows sheep shearing but some wool clips reach the local market. Prices run around twenty cents per pound as the crop this year is expected to be smaller than in previous years.
