A fierce blaze driven by west winds destroyed Charley Walker’s large barn three miles northwest of Sheridan, killing six fine horses and gutting the barn with 35 bushels of wheat and hay. The family could not reenter to save animals. only a mare and colt, a wagon and a buggy survived.
The first band concert of the season will be held Wednesday night May 17. The program features new music and the same instrumentation as last year. Concert runs from eight to nine with band members including Layton, Harrison, Wright, Hutchens, Sercheval, Mitchell, Gary, Scott, Elliott, Bradfeeld, Tapp, Scripture, Pettijohn, Fouch, Fouch Jr., and Foster.
Dick Bailey received four months in the Penal Farm and a $100 fine from Judge Cloe after a daylong trial. Bailey was arrested by Marshal Fisher weeks ago and found with ten bottles of beer. he was involved in a shooting incident at Noblesville Sunday night.
W I Poe of Lafayette and his son W A Poe reported their horse and buggy stolen from near Boxleytown last Tuesday. The rig was found in Frankfort Friday morning after a farmer spotted it and alerted police. Poe paid a reward to recover the gear. Clara Hughette provided the first clue guiding the pursuit. The horse and buggy arrived unharmed and a stranger was seen nearby Tuesday evening.
Local produce houses report May eggs at about 20 cents a dozen, roughly four cents higher than the same period in prior years. The increase marks a sharp rise in receipts and consumer costs for egg buyers this season.
Four Sheridan men face charges after a Sunday night brawl in Noblesville. John Reagan and Oscar Reagan allegedly fired shots at Arthur Bellis, who objected to reckless driving. Bellis and Dick Bailey are charged with assault and battery. John Reagan faces assault and battery with intent to kill. Oscar Reagan is charged with threatening to draw a deadly weapon. The Reagan brothers are out on bond.
A young man of slight build robbed the Citizens State Bank at Carmel Friday afternoon taking 1299. He forced assistant cashier Chester Bailey into the vault, escaped to a local garage with a hired driver, and fled to the city as efforts to locate him continue.
A gain of eleven school children in Adams township is reported by Trustee Pettijohn as a result of the enumeration just completed. The total now being 586 as against 577 last year. The number at one time was in excess of the 600 mark.
Sparks from a northbound passenger train set fire to the barn of F. E. A. Lane on Sherman Street Wednesday noon. Neighbors quickly fought the blaze and stopped it before it gained headway.
Thieves reportedly entered the Fisher restaurant through the rear door between 2 and 3 AM Saturday, taking about $20 from two cash registers. Night watch Henderson found the door open. this marks the second theft in months with no arrests thus far.
A note indicates the Sheridan banks and trust company released a statement of its financial condition at the close of business on May 1st, with details appearing on another page of the issue.
William Jessup of Sheridan was injured Wednesday morning when two large poles fell across his hip, breaking and shattering the bone while he worked on a strawtown levy. He was hospitalized at St. Vincent's in Indianapolis for treatment.

However little wool will be clipped in the area due to few sheep in the community. Erwin Cox has purchased the cement products business of W G Newby east of Hortonville. Newby will continue with general contract work.
Peter Cox of Jolietville died Monday after years of infirmity and dementia. He served in the 15th Indiana during the Civil War.
