Baldwin divorce settled in Noblesville circuit court

Elizabeth Baldwin was granted a divorce from Levi Baldwin after a three day trial. She received $350 alimony, court costs, a $100 attorney fee, and custody of their fourteen year old son with visitation rights. The couple had twenty eight years of marriage and nineteen moves.

Camden Teaching Position Tailed by New Jersey Call

Paul Nay a Sherman high school and Swarthmore College graduate has been called to a teaching post in Camden New Jersey. He served at Westfield high school last year and was previously superintendent of Boxley high school. He left for New Jersey Sunday and could not preside at this year’s alumni event.

Sheridan Eyes Hit at Franklin Invitational Meet

Sheridan high school draws statewide attention after a strong showing at the Franklin invitational. Northam excelled in broad jump and shot put with two firsts. Parr, despite an injury, won the 220 low hurdles and could secure another first. The relay squad, absent at Franklin, is favored to place highly. If Sheridan wins key events they will capture the meet and advance to the sectional at Indianapolis May 14, with the state meet in Franklin.

Burial for Mrs. Sarah Quakenbush in Local Cemetery

The remains of Mrs. Sarah Quakenbush, who died in Indianapolis, were brought here for burial on Tuesday. She was 60, survived by a daughter and two sons, and leaves two brothers, D. J. Belles of Sheridan and Clint Belles of Lebanon. Mrs. Quakenbush was a former Sheridan resident. her husband died twenty one years ago.

Enumeration Count Returns Losses for Sheridan Township

The county reports show Sheridan as the only area with a loss this year. The total count is 470, down from 480 last year. Other township figures include Adams 576 to 547, Delaware 360 to 354, Clay 318 to 297, Washington 695 to 624, and Jackson 1177 to 1097.

Foley's Subject Set for Sunday School Convention

Hon. M. E. Foley will address the Sunday School Convention on May 8 on the theme Our Duty to America at this hour. Local attendees are urged to attend the event at the church hall.

Trustee Sues Fellow Trustees Over Transport Bills

Walter Edwards a trustee of Washington township sues two other trustees from Marion and Union townships in Boone county court at Lebanon seeking $140.64 from Marion and $617.90 from Union for pupil transport to Westfield High School during the 1918 1919 school year.

Advance Hustler of Advance suspension notice

The Advance Hustler of Advance in Boone county will suspend publication May 12 after a twenty two year business career. Rising costs and insufficient advertising plus slow subscription collections are cited as causes for suspension.

Sheridan Schools Complete the Year

The Sheridan school closed its year Tuesday afternoon after extending the term a couple of days to make up time. Local schools had been fortunate to finish the year without any shutdowns due to contagion or disease, or other causes.

Sheridan alumni hold 31st annual meeting at Knights of Pythias hall

About one hundred members and guests gathered for the Sheridan alumni association thirty first annual meeting. The Florenz trio of Indianapolis provided a top musical program. M. L. Mendenhall welcomed new members. Nominating committee proposed Morris B Parr as vice president Fred Beauchamp as treasurer Miss Glenia Spear as secretary. After refreshments five unsold cakes were auctioned for the Mite Society.

Hamilton men attend state Woodmen camp in Indiana

H P Willworth of Sheridan and Harry Newcomer of Jolietville served as Hamilton county delegates to the Modern Woodmen of America state camp in Columbus Indiana held Tuesday and Wednesday. They were to be elected delegates from the ninth and tenth districts to the Head Camp meeting in St Louis the week of June 16 22. The Head Camp meets every four years and draws over one million members.

Mrs Phoebeck Stoker Dies at 81 in Sheridan

Mrs Phoebeck Stoker, 81, died Monday night at her daughter Mrs Frank Sluder’s home on West Ninth Street after a two week illness. Funeral held at the Sluder residence with burial at Lebanon. Mrs Stoker came to Sheridan from Lebanon about five years ago.

Sheridan High School Commencement Exercises

The final event of Sheridan High School’s commencement week was held at the M E B church on Friday night April 29. Harold Morton Kramer of Frankfort Indiana delivered the class address Here or Nowhere while the Sheridan orchestra provided music and the church was crowded.

Local Couple wed at Lebanon ceremony

Harold Russel Swope of near Kirklin and Miss Lucille Haskett of near Sheridan married Saturday in Lebanon by Rev. D O Jack. Miss Haskett graduates this year from Sheridan High School with ceremonies held Friday night.

About twenty ladies from the three Federated clubs of Sheridan attended the District Federation meeting in Frankfort on May 5th.

Sheridan Black and White take third at Franklin meet

The Sheridan high school track team finished third at the Franklin Invitational with about twenty teams. Manual won with 30 points, Tech second with 16 1/2, Sheridan 13 8, Noblesville tied with Rushville for fourth. Northam set a state broad jump record of 22 feet and placed second in the 220 dash after winning the shot put. Parr broke near the end of the low hurdles and was injured, limiting Sheridan to four entrants and preventing a relay entry.

Mrs Susan Palmer Buried in Sheridan Mission Service

The remains of Mrs Susan F Palmer widow of Olmer K Palmer were transported from Noblesville to Sheridan for burial after dying Friday night at her daughter Mrs N W Cowgill’s home on East Conner Street. She was eighty six and survived by four children including George H Palmer in Sheridan and Mrs Frances Higham in Cleveland.

May land job at state house

Reports from the State House indicate James M. Spencer of Sheridan will likely become manager of the state Museum at Indianapolis. Spencer, a Civil War veteran, is described as well qualified and the position pays about $120 per month.
