Noblesville Indiana May 1911 the circuit court docket was called with many cases set for trial May and June. Judge Vestal plans to adjourn in July and reconvene in October. Listings include Richardson vs Richardson and numerous civil and estate matters. The article notes roadway plans for Carmel Westfield and Sheridan and a marriage and an emigration declaration.
Joseph Cox about 60, a farmer with 40 acres near Poplar church two miles NW of town, was found dead in a barn early Thursday. He allegedly hanged himself after rising for chores, with no known financial trouble. his despondency may be linked to family strain and absence of a son who went West. Funeral plans unavailable.
A Fort Wayne Electric Co representative pressed for daytime electricity via meters, with no compulsory install but a contract price set. A drain along 10th to Main was approved, Owens addition sewer taps referred for legality, and demand for day current debated without a decision. Marshal salary raised to 50 dollars monthly amid bill approvals.
The Advisory Board with T. L. Neill Casper Moore and W. E. Wilson met with trustee Scott to approve building a new school house at number 11 one mile south of town to replace the condemned old building. Architect Hugh Dick to draft plans for next school year. Road funds tapped to repair and gravel roads under the three mile road law for county gravel road system inclusion.
School officials report 268 boys and 217 girls aged six to twenty one within the town limits, total 480 with seven colored boys. This marks a loss of 41 from last year, an eight percent decline, and the first time the current generation’s count fell below six hundred.
The township reports 590 children ages 6 to 21, down 25 from last year, with Washington down 125. The drop reduces school revenue, risking higher taxes or reduced school spending while expenditures rise, signaling increased taxation overall.
The Union Loan and Trust Company plans a modern two story building on the Main and Forth streets lot. Construction will start after the old Truby building is removed. The lower floor will house the Trust Company with upper offices. The block’s Truby building, once C. E. Elliott’s drug store, now hosts J. W. Mills billiards. The 28 foot wide lot was bought from Mrs. Ellen Truby Ferguson a year ago to meet growing demand.
The new $1500 Wesleyan parsonage will be dedicated May 14 with Rev. Aaron Worth of Fountain City delivering the dedicatory sermon at 10 am. Rev. T. P. Baker of Marion, conference president, will attend. Additional meetings are set for 2:30 and 8 o'clock. The modern building stands east of the church.
Noblesville clinched the fourth annual county athletic and oratorical contest with 35 points, edging Sheridan who had 33. Carmel finished third with 25 and Westfield 15 as Walnut Grove and Arcadia failed to score.
